Do We Buy More Tat When We Shop Online?

Ask a Question

Image

I think I do. The high street enabled you to examine and see goods and often you decide against it when you actually see the product up close but online often the quality can't be fully seen and when it gets to you laziness means you accept it rather than return it. I feel the high street is important with regards stopping so much waste and landfill. It often seems like we are going backwards with regard the environment despite now understanding the importance of the environment. Cars are getting bigger with SUV's, we import a lot more food than we used to and it feels like we buy much more short life products. So just when we need to improve our game we are doing the complete opposite of what we should be doing.

I use to be terrible for buying items online because they were a bargain rather than us needing the product. However with two kids we our overrun with stuff and I now spend vast amounts of time trying to declutter and organise everything, so I've become much better at not buying tat. I also try to avoid cheap furniture now and save for better quality products in the hope they last significantly longer.

I tend to buy less online as I seem to have more time to think about it, I may put it in the basket and then I leave it.

yes I'm guilty of that mainly when I've though things would be bigger and/or better quality and end up keeping them because nothing wrong with them bt not really what I was after

I wouldn’t say that people buy more tat but I’ve made mistakes ordering online. My most recent one was buying some Nike socks for my adult son but when they arrived they were child’s size 8!

I've bought a bunch of stuff from AliExpress and it's all been very useful. Plus, in terms of quality very good while relatively cheap.

Just gotta know what you're buying.

With me if there’s free delivery I will make it up for that amount even if I’ve not been bothered

I must admit that i'm pretty tough with myself for buying online, I seem to pop things in my basket and then abandon it. If there's something I do need on Amazon I add to basket and usually wait for a price reduction.

Yes and no, when shopping in person an impulse buy is more likely as you just grab something that looks good or is a great price then test and examine it at home where as online I can purchase any time and think about it more. However with online you can't see the product irl so tend to buy things and when they arrive they're not quite right, look different or are useless

Of course some folks do , if anyone actually knew what Amazon tat jewellery was (held it in their hand ) , realised how blunt and useless scissors , nail clippers , shavers were (all described as "professional " ) who would ever buy it - Certainly not twice🙄 . Nice pictures and paid for reviews what could possibly be misleading !

I bought a pair earrings recently for less than fiver including postage. I got caught out as I hadn’t checked the advert carefully. The earrings were from China and judging from the reviews were literally just “cheap tat”. I normally check very carefully, it’s easy to spot as Amazon products usually arrive the following day and these would take at least 2 weeks. I’ve bought loads of stuff online, anything apart from food, as we now live in rural Dorset and large shops are few and far between.
