Card Appeal for WW2 Army Veteran Ernest Horsfall's 105th Birthday
In the News
There's a Card appeal for WW2 Army veteran Ernest Horsfall's 105th birthday if anyone want to send him one.
Cards can be sent to Brooklands Care Home, 6 Black Bull Lane, Preston PR2 3PU ahead of his birthday on 21 April.
The Royal British Legion has started an appeal to collect birthday cards for a World War Two veteran as he turns 105.
Ernest Horsfall, from Preston, Lancashire, served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as a staff sergeant from 1940 to 1946.
He was given a surprise guard of honour while travelling to a service to mark the Armistice in London in 2019.
Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on 21 April 1918, Mr Horsfall was married for 57 years and had a son and a sister.
He has no immediate family and lives in a residential home.
There must be another way for us to commemorate his birthday rather than waste paper and postage on a meaningless card. I would sooner donate a £1 along with everyone else who would like to do so, and I am sure there would be well over £100 so they can have a proper celebration with all the residents.
Lynibis perhaps get in touch with the The Royal British Legion and make that suggestion. However I still think it's quite touching to receive a physical card in the post, and not meaningless when someone has thought to send it and written a message.
ILOVEFANTA you are right but I read that with my eco warrior hat on and I personally would not feel good receiving hundreds of cards from strangers, too many to display, instantly forgotten and waste of card and postage. Food and drink, bit of music would be far more appreciated as it may be his last birthday at that grand old age!
