Christmas Do or Gift?

Other

Which would you prefer from your employer ... a night out paid for by the company or a gift?

I used to organise an evening out .. casino and meal or similar but in the last couple of years numbers dwindled so last year gave everyone gift cards which cost more than a night out but still they moaned.

Any suggestions?

My work used to take us on a summer day out to the seaside as our Christmas do. Everybody gets invited to many functions at Christmas and it gets tricky to find a date that suits all. Whereas a summer day out seems easier and you don't need a new posh frock

Nice idea but they work hard and long hours in the summer... it's our busy time. The winter is a bit quieter.

You've heard a lot about my boss lol, but he does fund an Xmas do. Always on a weeknight even though some have to get up 6.30 ish or don't finish until 7 pm on the night! I have attended 5 out of 7 but food has always been catering pack rubbish. He pays for lots of drink too so I don't think gift cards would come to more and would be my preference. I certainly won't be attending this year!

They had £100 cards last year which I thought was generous. They seem to want both!

lynnibis That's good to know. They can have a 50% reduction this year!

I have never been to my works nights out. They are organised by the social committee and we pay for it ourselves. I think that either is generous.
