What Are the Risks of Not Cleaning Smartwatch Wristbands?
In the News
I don't know about you but the last thing i would think about cleaning would be the wristband on my watch
But Biological scientists are warning that plastic and rubber bands found on smartwatches could cause bacterial growth, leading to dangerous infections and illnesses like abscesses, pneumonia, and salmonella.
When you think about it there is a lot of sweat produced running or excercising in the gym and this drips down onto the smartwatch wristbands possibly causing infection of the skin if they are not cleaned regularly
I would stick to leather if i had this to worry about, but i am more sedate now

I have numerous different kinds of straps, my favourite are elastic ones from Temu. About £2 each I change them depending upon my mood or outfit.
I use Temu G , they sell everything so cheaply
I suppose if you buy a selection and keep changing them then the bacteria problem wouldn't happen, i suppose these are easy to wash ?
I had the fitbit 1 and then 2. I did notice that i got a rash under my wrist where i wore it so I started to clean it with hot soapy water once a week and that sorted it
Thanks for this I’ll let my husband know he needs to use an antibacterial wipe to clean the strap.
