Confusion over 'Small Local Competitions'
Other
I keep getting competitions deleted due to this. I understand the concept of 'we do not accept small local comps as LD is a big community and its not fair to include those that not everyone can participate'. But how is it judged? The comp in question was to win prizes for days out over the whole of Essex, not just one town, the whole county. How is that any different to tickets for a show in London or tickets to a day at a horse trials i recently posted. Even a single night stay in Cornwall is permitted but I couldn't see someone in Scotland entering.
I for one would not feel upset if a comp was included that wouldnt be applicable to me and I am sure none of you would begrudge others entering if you couldn't, there are loads i can't enter for various reasons but I am sure it would all level out in the end.
A small afternoon prize in the next county would be worth the day out especially if friends and family live there so could include a visit. Also comps like this are invariably deleted the next day so lost points cannot be recovered.
I really do not see a problem in including all comps large or small, am i missing something?
It does seem a fairly odd rule.
By this template, surely holiday competitions flying from a particular airport should be removed too.
If I don't live close enough or can't easily get to a distant airport I simple pass on the competition and move on.
blacklabrador yes, I often pass on foreign holiday comps because you can only fly from a Northern airport and I am way down South. That rule should include any day event, with no overnight stay, but the comp I posted covered a whole county and in some instances the prize event would be nearer to folk in several other counties.
I agree..all comps should be fine.We are diversely situated so should be able to pick and choose surely!
MelissaLee1 as I said I can't imagine anyone being cross or upset because a particular comp was not suitable for them to enter as it was nearer to others. Comps take place all over the country so we would all get a fair share.
I often got competitions removed, as they were free ones on paid competition sites.
It was free to sign up, free to play and genuine as I've either won or or know of someone who has before.
They didn't really specify that it was because they shared a site with paid competitions, they just kept saying there wasn't enough evidence, even with the business information etc. So I was told to just not post those types, but I had to speak to admin on here for that for clarification.
I believe emmabeckz was one of the lovely people that helped me out
DeBunny The magazine comps can be a minefield as many of them offer the same prizes. A comp will be deleted if it has been posted from a different magazine, but when you are posting this you are not to know this is the case and time consuming if you were to check each one. I have never been sure with those if it is one prize on offer over all the mags or one prize from each one.
I suppose my title is misleading as I am not confused myself over the small and local ones, just feel it is not right to allow some and not others. Personally I cannot see the difference between tickets for a craft/caravan/home show in one isolated venue (which are allowed) or a meal/afternoon tea/day out somewhere else. There really is no difference if a long journey is involved for most entrants to obtain their prize. And as I said, some folk might like a run out further afield and others like myself prefer to stay nearer home, but I would not begrudge the prize for those willing to travel.
Well here we go again. This time my comp doesn't meet the guidelines as it doesn't say in title what you win. Well, the title clearly states win a £50 Next voucher and I don't know what else I can add or change to make it clearer, so...........
Lynibis This is about page standardization and formatting. As I said, I manually change a lot of titles daily, but that's not always possible, so we hand the work back to the user by simply editing the title.
If you check the last 3 years of the page, you will see that all titles are standardized.
kikogpe well to be honest I don't feel that a whole county can be described as local and that doesn't address the whole subject of people being able to choose what comps they wish to enter.
I would say I cannot enter 50% of the comps but wouldn't dream of saying they shouldn't be posted or others given the choice. And I certainly don't understand 'change the title' when it clearly states the prize and cannot be altered to be clearer as in my comment above. Methinks someone just reports on the offchance.
kikogpe would you please explain this one. The prize is for 3 bottles of non alcoholic drink open to all uk residents but I have had notification that it is not allowed being small and local. Another too for 4 theatre tickets which have always been accepted previously.

Lynibis "Due to the local nature of competition and prize draw organisers and available prizes, unless otherwise stated competitions and prize draws are open only to residents of the following postcode areas: CR, GU, KT, RH, SE, SM, SW, TW."
I never noticed that myself on their T&Cs before.
