Where Can I Find the Best Deals on Contact Lenses?
Ask a Question
I wear contact lenses and have done for many years and I am on subscription with my local opticians but they’ve increased my direct debt twice in the past 18 months. I’m now paying £27 a month, I get my annual eye test, solutions and my contacts included.
Was just wondering do any of you buy them online and if so which company would you recommend? Of course I’d still would have my eyes tested once a year but I’m sure that is around £20.
I have worn contacts for many years, I think I pay about £33 for 12 weeks worth. I’m in Scotland so don’t pay for my eye tests. But I have always been with AsdA, and order repeats online
My husband uses Asda Opticians. Great price for his contacts and couldn’t find them any cheaper.
I will keep asda in mind for future, looks good - especially with free delivery and all! If you just need a one off, you may find a good deal with lenstore, I joined with a discount code of around 20% off for the first time.
I had a similar experience with Specsavers, I realised I could get the same thing for much cheaper online. However as you said, you have to factor in the aftercare and eye tests. I do now get my contacts online but have had to pay for eye tests and glasses that would have been cheaper/free, had I still got my contacts from the opticians
I buy my husband's contacts online on vision direct. It used to be cheaper. I had a quick look and they have sales on some items at the moment. Have a look if it's cheaper for you. I think it's next day delivery and the parcel fits through the mailbox
I use vision direct great prices, never ask to see a prescription and they give you sweets. Next day delivery free over £59
Daysoft. Used for years daily disposables. Decent quality and great customer service. My march order 192 pairs for £76.80. Thats 6 months worth.
I buy my lenses from Feel Good Contacts a year’s supply of monthly’s costs me £90. I use Asda opticians for my eye tests and contact len checks. I use to order my lenses from Asda but their supplier couldn’t get 0.25 strengths in my toric lense so I had to look elsewhere
IonaJones yes it will depend on what brand of lenses you have. I have Coopervision Proclear normal on one and toric on the other. The toric are more expensive £55 for 12 pairs compared to £35 on the normal. There’s usually 10% discount codes around as well.
I buy all in one solution from Home Bargains for a couple of quid. It all significantly reduced my lenses cost as I like you was originally signed up for the monthly plans
Gromit22 I wear the fortnightly ones as when I tried the monthly ones I only last two weeks when I felt I wanted to change them. I wear Acuvue oasys by Johnson & Johnson and I have done for over 15 years I love them as they are so comfortable and never had issues with them. I will have a look at Home Bargains for solutions as that was one of the reasons I stayed with my provider but now it’s £27 per month and I can get them online for cheaper.
IonaJones it’s right what you say about comfort, I’ve worn the same ones for about the same time as you as my originals I had at 16 were discontinued in 2005 so have been on the Proclear ever since. They tried me on the newer type that are supposed to be better for you, letting more oxygen in but they weren’t comfortable so I stick with the basic and the toric helps with my astigmatism in my left eye as driving at night was becoming an issue.
Savers and Poundstretcher also do all in one solution between £2-£3
Sadly Wilko’s did too and all basically the same thing (when you look at the ingredients) and some were made in the same place and identical. Asda got greedy and put there’s up to over £5 so I don’t buy theirs anymore.
Just out of curiosity, don't you like glasses?
I only wear glasses for driving and viewing TV.
PhilipMarc I hate wearing glasses as you don’t get the whole viewing angles like you do with contacts. When I wore glasses my eyes used to get worse but around 18 years ago i went to contact lenses and the prescription hasn’t changed, plus I can wear them everyday without any issues. I just prefer lenses to glasses. They are better for me but I know it’s not the case for some.
IonaJones Understood, thanks.
I read there's people who had laser surgeries to have contact lenses permanently. That seems risky, but each to their own.
PhilipMarc I’m not tempted with laser but I have been told my eyes have stabilised now being over 50 and I probably will have cataracts when I’m older and after surgery there is a good chance I’ll have my vision back better than before
