Council to Use AI to Catch Speeding Motorists

A council is to use artificial intelligence (AI) to catch speeding motorists, new policy papers have revealed.
Kent County Council says it will also aim to use the technology to find crumbling roads and identify residents who may be vulnerable to homelessness.
Council leader Roger Gough said the proposal had been made in view of AI’s “spectacular growth”.
“I can see it enriching what we do as an organisation and develop a better understanding of how we serve our population,” he said.
The technology could be used to generate data on how residents in independent living interact with their surroundings, to highlight council staff who may be likely to leave and to catch speeding motorists, according to policy papers.
“This involves the use of AI to highlight road sections where road users are not compliant with newly-introduced speed limits in order to determine where further action may be required,” the council document stated.
I think this is the slippery slope into complete big brother watching absolutely everything that we do and we should all be worried about it.
I don't believe for one minute that they will use it wisely to detect 'residents who may be vulnerable to homelessness' they are just trying to justify the use of AI by trying to make it appear to be something that the public should want/need. If councils wanted to end homelessness they could put the necessary resources into it right now (having not been worried about it previously!) but, of course, they don't have those resources and still won't have them even if potential homelessness is identified. Having AI won't give them more money to deal with the issues they they may find. I think we are blindly heading into oblivion iRobot style.
As far as speeding motorists goes, it is just a money maker!
tumblespots couldn't of put it better myself. The future looks bleak and I am glad I won't be around to witness it, just feel fear and sympathy for our descendants.
I don't like people who drive too fast. It's hard enough to get across the road in one piece anyway and when they come zooming down the road at dodgy speeds it's life threatening. What's the big hurry anyway? Leave home earlier and take yer time lol. That said, this is probably just another way to catch people out and send em tickets.Yet another money spinner.

The so-called Conservative government isn't really much different than the Labor. It's an illusion they give people.
Even the PM wasn't elected by the British people.
The taxpayers being fleeced again and again by a new "idea". I bet the council staff and their advisories are laughing their heads off dreaming up this pointless idea.
jam45 The AI is probably some licensed software product that costs a lot of money and means the council is exporting more of tax payers money leading to more debt for us. So many councils are facing bankruptcy. It seems so few can live within their means and control costs instead they follow gimmicky ideas and waste a ton of money including high wages and pensions for themselves.

Instead of going after real criminals, they're targeting innocent people once again.

Can they use AI to catch the folk who let their dogs mess and not pick it up ? It's not the councils job to police the law of the land. I'd be challenging that in court
Can they replace the councils with AI, it couldn’t do any worse than our current lots.
