I saw some tips on TV the other day. I don't often get cut flowers but thought some of these were interesting.

- Not to put daffodils in with other cut flowers, it is like putting a banana in a fruit bowl, it will make the others go off quickly.

- Always trim the stems of cut flowers, either slanted or up the stem, as it opens up a fresh base which allows more water to be taken up the stem. If they start to dry out and look like they are wilting, cut them again, you should get more time out.

- Apparently the flower food you get in the packets with your cut flowers from shops don't do much, if anything it just stops the water appearing slimy.

I'm also going to have a go at drying my own flowers, we have a hydrangea bush and never thought to, I might give some away if it goes well, just to help brighten some people's days.

Yes I heard this too on TV and she said to put the stems in warm water for the first 12 hours after that you can add the dads to a tulip display with killing the tulips ๐ŸŒท

Just make sure you change the water every few days for fresh and add a spot of bleach.

Apparently if you put a few copper coins into the vase and add the water it helps make the flowers last longer, it's also a good idea to cut your flower stem at a slant too but when it comes to daffodils Place your daffodils in warm water with floral preservative. Move them to a cool dark location for 12 hours or overnight. Arrange daffodils in their own vase to avoid damaging other cut flowers with the gooey sap they exude. Or after 24 hours in their own vase, rinse the daffodil stems and combine with other flowers.

I always wash the vase out before I put the flowers in then I add the flower food and filtered water then I trim the flower stems and remove the leaves from the bottom of the stems so they are not sitting in the water

Trim the stems at an angle rather than straight. A splash of vodka is good to help keep them longer. If you don't have vodka then try sugar or bleach. Change the water every few days.

Putting a ยฃ50 note in the vase with the flowers we'll make them look more expensive even if they are dandelions.

I wouldn't advise doing until you check but I was told donkeys years ago that an aspirin in the water does wonders.

Never heard of the bleach tip mentioned by many, I would never have thought of that as my instinct would have been that it would kill the flowers!
