How Much Does It Cost to Sell at Your Car Boot?

Ask a Question

How much would you pay to sell at a Car Boot?

I saw one nearby us was charging £15 a car which seems so expensive!

Where I am it's around £10 to sell at a Carboot. It's been a while since I did a Carboot so it's probably more.

Our local Morrisons store occasionally have them on a Sunday in their Car Park. They charge £10 for a car and £15 for a van, which as long as they are attracting the buyers I think is fair.

Went to a boot sale last summer as a buyers for a look around and they wanted to charge us 50p per person to get in and a £1.50 to park the car which I thought was a cheek. Didn't end up actually going into that one just turned and drove away.

Mango4 Wow, that is unfair, not only on those looking for a bargain but those who have paid to sell their stuff there, especially as the venue potentially is turning their customers away by charging them as well. I couldn't believe venues would do that, to collect money from both buyer and seller but they do. Now, I have entered boot fair's as a customer where a collection bucket is in place for charity donations, I don't mind that and find myself putting more in. Like you I will turn away from a charged entry fair as that is not fair.

I think £5 is enough as often you are lucky to sell £20 worth of stuff, though I suppose there are 'professional' car booters. Even with 100 cars someone is making £1500, probably tax free, that is a month's income for some.

Gosh that seems expensive but it’s long time from I was at car boot sale. There doesn’t seem to be that many around anymore where I live. It’s been few years from I was last at 1 (probably pre covid) and they were charging £5 a car and £7.50 for vans

I used to do them but don’t think it’s worth it anymore. Lucky if you can make back the pitch fee now. People only want to offer pennies even for things worth more.

£10 a table for sellers where I live and £1 entry for buyers but a very good sale always.

Our local ones are usually about £5 for sellers and there are some that charge for people to go into the car boots. I've never sold at a car boot and it's been a while since I've been to one. I never found anything I wanted to buy.

It keeps going up were I am here £8 or £10 for sellers and £2 for buyers

I think it’s a bit steep as it’s a lot for sellers to get back (£5 surely is sufficient) as people don’t want to spend huge amounts and as they’ve already spent £2 to get in.

I use to go round our local ones for a mooch about just in case I saw something but the increased buyers fee has now put me off so I don’t go anymore

The Yeovil Car boot which I haven't been to for years is £8 for cars and £15 for vans selling and £2 for cars and £1 for pedestrians buying. Last time I went I think it was £5 for cars selling. I will probably go a few times this year in the summer.

I personally feel the pricing is excessive. Also the Yeovil car boot is outside the town without easy access for a lot of people. You need to drive basically. It feels like it needs some competition. My idea of pricing is 50p for buyers and £3 for cars and £5 for vans selling. I guess if you had 6 people in a car then my rates would be more expensive for buyers but generally cheaper. Last time I went it was 50p to enter as a buyer for a whole car.

No car so not done a car boot for years. If the field or carpark being used are donating money to a charity £10 seems average in today's economy. Was getting very hard to sell decent items years ago. Now seems a bit like market/flea stalls etc, people buying don't pay much.

I totally agree! A prime example is - to recoup your expenses, mainly your £15.00 back ( not including petrol etc...) you would need to sell 30 items at 50p each. Plus the insulting offers from buyers especially those who want everything for nothing or next to nothing is unbelievable & demeaning. You might be selling at a boot sale but it doesn't mean you have to literally give it away, some buyers are so greedy!! It's frustrating & sole destroying. Some Boot sale organisers charge an entry fee for buyers!!

skd I'm such a buyer always wanting a bargain and will haggle a bit although no where near as ridiculous as some people. Most people expect to haggle a bit at a car boot unless its silly money like just a few pence.

A lot of places in london are £10-£15, which seems to be the standard. I only get annoyed if these places also charge for the use of the toilets (you could be there for hours, so it’s a bit unreasonable they don’t include the use of the facilities along with the relatively expensive the entrance fee)
