Does a Full Service History Add Value to Your Car?
Ask a Question
My car is 8 years old in September and has 7 years full service history with the previous owner.
If I don't service it with the dealership next month, but have it done elsewhere,, will the value of my car reduce significantly?
Please can anyone advise?
It won’t make your car any cheaper you could always keep receipt from where you have done. Most people service themselves we do ours.
No it will not reduce the value of your car as long as you use a vat registered garage and if the car still has warranty make sure that they use main dealer parts and stamp your service book
No sold my car recently , the dealership I sold it to didn't care as long as the book was stamped by a VAT registered garage. Like you I was having my car serviced each the by the main dealer, that was until last year when with Covid I couldn't get an appointment at the dealer to service the car so went elsewhere. I found value of my car varied considerably from garage to garage and how hard you pushed them for that bit more .
Thanks for the info about having your car stamped by a VAT-registered garage. Dealerships are a rip-off, they have been calling my husband to book in for a service. I found they don't give a good car service like they used to do a few years ago.
Firedragon it seems that it's not necessary to use a dealership for the Service. What's your opinion on this?
SAdeals my opinion is that the dealership does not do a good service they just look at the car and charge a fortune, I have all my car serviced at a local vat garage for half the price and I get a better service, and I still get the main dealer parts and my service book stamped, my family and friends now do this as well as they were sick of being ripped off too. Your warranty will still be valid as long as the garage is vat registered and and they use main dealer parts
tara73ziva thank you so much for your feedback. I'm glad my thoughts have been confirmed! I will definitely do the same now
SAdeals I agree with most of the comments here... I think it's extortionate for what they do/dont do.
Stick with your local
The thing often missed is how much the car is worth ? As the resale value of mine dips below £8K ( a 6 year old BMW) , I only get it serviced for peace of mind . When it was a couple of years old and worth £15 K of course it kept the value up .
I'm looking at £800 for the next service (or £200 at Formula 1 or similar ) . Is the BMW £800 service going to add £600 to the value of my car - Sadly not !
Golfforall I understand your thinking here.makes a lot of sence. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advice
I would be more likely to buy a car with a full service history as it shows the car has been taken care of.
beccatavender as would most I would have thought but the question is does it matter where the car has been serviced?
I don't think I so, until recently I thought all garages were equal.
I won't go into the saga with my son's car. Firedragon
