Batch cook and freeze. Always make sure your freezer is full, add newspapers if necessary. Sweep up rather than vacuuming. Wear clothes several times before washing.

The best thing to do is to get into new habits ? Build up an energy credit ? Read something totally stupid re Hot Tubs ! I'll use it till October then bin it afterwards . Doh ! The money you could save by binning the hot tub now would probably save you one months worth of energy to go towards the winter bills .

By our nature we are incredibly stupid and wasteful ! I dare say the harsh reality of what is to come has sharpened up folk's mental arithmetic ? . The government will step in to minimise the blow - with mine and your money . (remember the "government " has no money of it's own ) .

We all have to take responsibility . Perhaps a thing some of us have not been accustomed to doing ?

From what I gather from "likes" of frequently posted Amazon "tat" - just swerve those "non deals" . The Original price quoted is in fantasy land -no deal ! So don't waste your money on such non deals - In fact don't "like" such ridiculous discounts /vouchers - By liking such deals less savvy members might be daft enough to spend precious money on such items .

Sadly too many such items get through the moderation on here . We all like a deal , but know the value of an item before you buy . I'm a mug for a bargainbut few that appear on here are !

Buyer beware has more relevance these days ?

Use an air fryer more than the oven. Use a short, cold cycle on your washing machine. Make sure everything that can be is unplugged at the wall. Wear thermal clothes so you don't need to put the heating on as much. Only boil the water you need. When washing by hand fill a basin with hot water and use that for dishes instead of running the water lots. Shower less, turn the heat down on the shower. Turn the hot water temp down on your boiler.

Find somewhere else to go in the winter, for example library, coffee shop, pub (make sure you nurse the drink). Visit a friend who has the heating on!

Use a steamer on the hob and use one gas ring (or whatever you use) instead of 3. Potatoes in the bottom, veg in the middle and fish of choice on top. Metal hob steamers are relatively cheap, to me there is no advantage to an electric one and more difficult to clean.

Cook two lots of potatoes and use half and mash half to reheat next day. Do even more and freeze if you like.

Yesterday I cooked two chicken breasts, ate one for dinner and the other, which I had marinaded in harissa, lemon and garlic, I will eat cold today with salad.

We also need to save water too as we do not have an infinite amount. My granddaughter told me the other day that at age 7 a teacher told them to put the plug in next time they brushed their teeth and see how full the sink was by the time they had finished. She was shocked at the amount of water most people waste when brushing teeth and to this day she turns off the tap until rinsing with a handful of water.I

Parents need to teach their kids frugality with the earth's resources but so many shirk their responsibilities and can't be bothered to even teach the basic life skills and how to behave, be kind, and be respectful of others.

Go to the cinema and take your own snacks. Ride the bus if you have a bus pass.

Pjran the only problem with the cinema is how much it costs! Plus you would need to watch all the films to be there for a long period of time, so it would be expensive too. Unless you already have an unlimited pass. I reckon our library is going to be packed!

Airfry and outdoor gas bbq (under my lean to), use less lights and heat. Go to be early with a kindle, extra blankets and lots of candles at the ready

Airfrying might be more economical for those who use an electric oven BUT those who use a GAS oven (many of us still do) gas (at the present time) is more economical.

Can't get accurate figures on this but at the moment an airfryer will cost about half the price of an electric oven but gas costs about a quarter as much as electricity per KW hour. Do your own sums - there are many misleading assumptions.

Things will change in the coming years as gas is phased out.

eyeballkerry the obvious one is homemade chips. You can cook any frozen item in it. We do chicken and haggis, sausages, pizza, burgers. If you look at a website called feed your family for £20 a week, they have some good air fryer recipes.

eyeballkerry no problem, you can still do the chicken without the haggis. It isn't for everyone.

We have recently bought smart plugs and have connected them to the Google. Every night it will turn off all the tvs and x boxes along with other things plugged into the usb. If we are not in a room there is no reason to have lights on. X

Wear thermals. And buy them when they’re on offer. They’re not expensive and they will do a good job keeping you warm on the colder days

k4ren2006 If that "Don't Pay" has anything to do with those who are not going to pay their bills. I hope they enjoy being forced onto prepayment meters, costing more, and presumably also set to reclaim any debts incurred.

NOT A GREAT IDEA. (in my opinion)😀

Defrost your freezer and make sure it is full as well, even if you bulk it up with ice packs if you don’t have enough food.
