Experiences with the Postal Service

Ask a Question

Recently I’ve noticed that the service I receive from Royal Mail is getting terrible. I won’t receive any mail for days and then receive 10 to 15 letters in one day. I wasn’t happy with it but could put up with it. However now my post is going missing (as is my neighbours post). I had to order a replacement bank card as mine wasn’t working in all machines. It didn’t arrive within the 3-5 days stated but I decided to wait a little longer as like I mentioned I wouldn’t get post for days then all at once. However there was no sign of my new cards after almost two weeks. I contacted my bank and explained the situation including the reason I had given a bit extra time for it to arrive before contacting them. Another card was then issued and sent through the post and again I haven’t received it . I do not have a valid bank card now as you can only use your original one for 28 days once a replacement is requested. Also I was waiting for a new sim to be sent to me which I haven’t received. It is a contract sim and has been sent 3 times without any success in delivery. There are other items that I was waiting for that haven’t arrived. I know at least 10 items have gone missing. How many items have been sent to me that I wasn’t aware of have gone missing. I’ve contacted Royal Mail without success. Therefore I have written to local MP.

Is anyone else suffering like this or is it a problem just in my local area ?

Please share your experiences (good or bad) and any advice you can offer me on what I should do next would be greatly appreciated.

No real problems in this part of SW Wales.

Our Postman is very nice. I gave him a box of pork scratchings the other day.

TheChimp I’m glad it’s not this bad for everybody. I’ve spoke to a lot of people in different areas of Birmingham and unfortunately a lot of them have had these problems. It’s such a shame because the postman who used to deliver to my house was great. Now there is somebody different it seems every month .

Keep rewarding your postman with the scratchings, show him he’s appreciated. I would love to have a reliable postman like you have. I’ve taken it for granted all these years that my post will be delivered regularly without a problem. It’s so frustrating when that isn’t the case anymore. Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m glad that it’s not a problem everywhere. Maybe it’ll be easier to get to the bottom of the problem and get it sorted if it’s isolated to certain areas . 😋

TheChimp hahaha. I bet the postie put it into a food bank. The posties are well paid and don't need you giving them "presents" for doing their job (properly)

Not concurrently, the current mailman who delivers our mail is very friendly so can't complain.

PhilipMarc I’m feeling a bit better to find out that the problem I’m experiencing isn’t “the norm”. Up until last year I was extremely happy with the service I received from Royal Mail. However like I said it’s been gradually getting worse . Now it’s just unacceptable, that’s the reason I wanted to ask if anyone else is experiencing this issue too. I’m thinking what to do about the problem and who best to contact to help me.

Yes I've had parcels lost with claims that it was delivered but I rejected it. Company has said no its been lost. Post is being delivered to totally wrong addresses

Jerseydrew I’ve too had the excuses that it’s been delivered but when I ask for proof of delivery they can’t provide it . Also been told delivery was attempted but no one home even when someone was home all day . It’s ridiculous. I’m going to keep trying to contact my local MP. See if I can get any help . Do you know the email address to contact Royal Mail online please

There Is nothing Royal about Royal Mail. I have had lots of bad experiences from them In the past few years. Examples: My log book never turned up and DVLA Is going to charge me £25 for a duplicate (Still Going On & Fighting It). Ebay parcels sent back & held In a distribution centre which means they have lost them. In the end ebay can see this on their system when they track & trace this so they Intervened & I got my refund. I bought something from ETSY and It got delivered so the tracking said, but It didnt. It took me almost a month to get a refund & suddenly after 4 months It turned up. They are rubbish.

Emerge11 It's like FedEx, it's not really federal whatsoever.

But still, in the U.K., RM is still one of the better shipping companies that exist.

PhilipMarc For Parcels I like Evri. I have never had any Issues from them ever. Some have but I have not. I had a Zippo Lighter that needed to be fixed. Royal Mail would NOT accept it even when stripped & sent bare shell. Evri would. It got delivered to Germany perfectly and very quickly.

Not sure how often they deliver around my way, as I get very little physical mail now, so only receive post once maybe twice a week anyway. It does tend to arrive later in the day thou than it used to, but have had no real issues with it. What is bad is my local sorting office only open 08.00am -10.00am Mon-Sat, so awkward if your working and have to collect a missed parcel or letter.

My husband has been a Postie since his early 20s and is still working past retirement age. Sadly, there's been so many changes in the management of Royal Mail, he feels saddened that they are now unable to provide the service they once did. He's the type of Postie who becomes known to his round by his first name, takes bins in and out for the elderly and helps people wherever he can, even going back into the Sorting Office past his work time looking for items people are desperate to receive.

AlysonC it’s unfortunate that all postmen don’t act in this honourable way . I know there are a few good ones working but they are getting tarred with the same brush and it’s unfair. Tell your husband that we do appreciate the service of postmen like him . Thank him for his kindness and honourable conduct

We did experience a problem for a while as in not receiving post very often but seems to have sorted itself out now. We actually don't receive very much mail these days, usually have a couple of fliers on a Monday and the odd letter through the week. We have a lovely postman.

There is a very big staff shortage at RM so the remaining posties are sometimes completing the rounds of two people in order to get it delivered, that means overtime which management don't want to fund, so some post just doesn't get delivered that day. It's a catch 22 problem.
