What's your favourite "poverty" meal that you still make even though times are better?
Can't beat beans on toast or a good frozen pizza for me
Leannexxx I love doing a Spag bol! It feeds 3 of us with a portion for the next day too.
Midnightflower I agree can't beat cheesy pasta so tasty and easy to buy and cook, my sister was also partial to a hotdogs sausage cut up on top lol
Midnightflower Oooh this is one of mine too! I had it a when times were harder when I was growing up and now i love having it for a cheap meal.
Home made soup and some short life reduced bread perhaps from the nearby coop. Also for a drink I like some cheap lager/bitter (about £1.10 for 4 cans) with a cheap 25p 2ltr bottle of diet lemonade. I don't have much beer in it so it's probably only about 12p a pint but really enjoy it. I prefer drinking it quickly while its still got a nice frothy head on it.
I also enjoy sardines on toast on occasion.
Jacket potato and a side salad cheep quick meal for me or if in a rush pot noodle and bread
UK style carbonara.
Cook some pasta, add some made up packet cheese sauce and some crappy cheapo ham.
Job done.
I enjoy spaghetti bolognaise, jacket potatoes, beans and cheese on toast but my favourite at the moment is sausages with leek gratin or pappadums loaded with mango chutney, onion, carrot and cucumber
My lot love a baking dish with beans at bottom fish fingers ontop layered then mash, cheese on top too fish pie
I like to do a sausage oven bake with loads of veg, pretty easy to do and you can just leave it in the oven for like 50 minutes and it’s ready
A good sandwich and a cuppa soup, with crisps if possible! Favourite vegan cheese with tomato, minestrone or leek soup
Pot noodle with crusty bread and butter, will never tire of it. Costs less than £2, reminds me of the good old (broke) days
jjs1985 ummmm I can taste it,lol I love that too, got to be the green potnoodle and real butter for me
Pasta bake, any kind, pasta plus anything that's looking abit limp in the fridge, and any scabby bits of cheese tha need using up, lol
Can't believe no one has mentioned sausage and mash. 6 sausages £2.50 for posh ones or £1.50 for middle of the road. Potatoes, 4 for £1 or less. Gravy granules, peas, one fried onion - say £1 for a portion big enough. Looking at less than a fiver to feed three people. Bonus points if you have some leftover beef or chicken fat to add to the gravy
