Do You Remember the Funniest Thing Your Parents Ever Told You?

Other

Parents tell children some funny things in the hope it’ll give them incentive to do the right thing . You know the usual Santa is watching to see if you’re being good to bring your presents etc . However some of what they say can be funny . Can you share any funny things parents have said

JLouM that was one I believed too . I don’t think anyone ever picked a dandelion in my area . Then there was the buttercup one . If you held a buttercup under someone’s chin and you could see the yellow shine on the skin you liked butter !!!!!! It depended if the sun was shining really I think , or maybe our imagination. Whatever the reason I believed it . Lol

I was told to eat the crusts on the bread and my hair would curl. Why I wanted curly hair as I child I don’t know. But I eat my crusts and my hair is dead straight.

Eat your carrots so you can see in the dark. My dad used to say stop picking your nose or you will end up like this, as he held up his hand which had a missing forefinger!

Lynibis apparently the carrots helping you see in the dark myth was started by the british during WW2

Lynibis I remember the carrot one and then my dad would say “have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses?”. The evidence to back up the statement about seeing in the dark , lol

When my eldest son was a around 3-4 he queried why there was always socks/ shoes in the tree in the park. ( Iv no idea why but everytime we went there was more) So as a fun story I told him it was a shoe growing tree. That it grew socks & socks grew to shoes etc. Fast forward a couple of years & I catch him telling a friend of mine how her shoes grew on a tree. Turned out he'd believed all those years that shoes actually did grow on trees. Don't lie to kids I suppose 😆

I've never heard of the 'myth' before, but in terms of science/health wise I know carrots help because of vitamin A .... but obviously not to the superhuman level and carrots won't be the only thing that helps. They may not have had the science at the time in ww2 , but maybe it actually helped a little in night blindness, since it was more difficult to eat well so they were probably deficient.

I’m enjoying reading the sayings our parents would say to us as kids . It’s strange that we all seem to have been told the same “tales” , lol . I was actually thinking I wonder what started some of these classic sayings off . There must be a story behind them . If anyone has any idea of the origins of some of these , please enlighten me . I really would love to know

Don't lie or your nose will grow.

Don't eat pips or it will grow inside of you.

Eat your crusts, it will put hairs on your chest - my response was I don't want a hairy chest 🤣

Eat your veg it will make you big and strong.

Don't pick your nose or your brains will fall out - why they didn't just say because it was gross I don't know 😂

I wonder how many generations these have been passed down from.

I remember hearing a myth a while ago and the origin, I wish I remembered what the phrase was! I think it was something about cooking in a smaller tray, it was blown way out of context and it was literally just because ovens were smaller and the bigger one wouldn't fit. It had nothing to do with the quality of the meal.
