We all put our trust in GPS when we are lost and expect the instructions to be up to date
But this man died after following google maps when he drove across a collapsed bridge and plunged over the edge
Now the family are suing google maps for his death
The bridge had collapsed nine years before the tragic accident and despite people informing google maps that they needed to update their system they never did
I have had a few incidents myself where the GPS has taken me the wrong way , but luckily never led to tragic circumstances like this
I would firstly be sueing the authorities for not putting some sort of barrier up so motorists couldn't drive anywhere near, or at the very least a huge warning sign.
Surely this could have happened to a driver with or without Google maps.
I rely heavily on Google maps and if they are going to get sued regularly the service may end.
That’s so sad. We were fined after following GPS instructions And I’ve read several reports when lorries get stuck in bridges. Another local report was a lady ended up on the rail track after being told turn left!
That's so sad you would think the authorities would have put something up after 9 year of complaints his poor family we have been sent to some wrong places with our sat nav due to new roads and bridges being built well thats what my partner says lol it could just be his driving 
When did people become so daft? Remember the person who bought a rv and left it on cruise control to make a hot drink and was surprised when it crashed? Be sensible people!
And that’s why I still rely on my faithful A-Z map book which is updated and doesn’t run out of battery power.

Whenever I read GPS sending people the wrong direction I think of this:
At the end of the day Sat navs, maps, local guide etc are all just tools we can use to help us. Drivers are responsible for their actions. Just saying that the satnav told me to go this way is no excuse. As others have already said, if they have a case against anyone its the authority thats responsible for the bridge. There should be a physical barrier stopping you driving over a broken bridge!
didbygraham I once used Google Maps to help me indicate the path I needed to go, and instead it sent me to drive through tight and confusing pathways... If I had driven a bit further it'd have been all straight ahead than right, left, right, right, left.
Do people remember maps? My father used to check them out to know which way to go. Maybe I'll try to learn how to use a map because there are times GPS is unreliable and apparently they can turn it off so people don't go on roadtrips they planned? e.g. during the infamous lockdowns (they treated people like convicts if they wouldn't stay in their homes).
Oh my God that's really sad 
I wonder why there was no warning signs or barriers.
I use Google maps alot and I find it helpful but very sad situation for the poor guy.
Why wasn't the bridge cordoned off by the authorities. More their fault than Google I would have thought.
