How to Grow Pumpkins from Seeds Help!

Ask a Question

My grandchildren (aged 6 & 7) stayed with me this weekend and we had great fun carving pumpkins. We’ve saved some of the seeds and are going to try to grow our own pumpkins next year. Trouble is I have no idea how to dry and store the seeds or when to plant them or in fact anything about growing them !!! Grannie always knows everything….. HELP !!!! Please

I've not grown pumpkins but take a look at this, may help you:--How to grow pumpkins from seed

Fill individual 9cm pots with Seed Raising Mix.

Plant the seeds 2.5cm deep, on their sides.

Water the pots and place them in a warm spot indoors or sheltered veranda. ...

After germination, place the pots on a sunny windowsill until the seedlings are large enough to be planted out.

They need lots of watering especially if it's a warm summer. If to wet they rot. It's not as bad as you think. Lots of advice online

Just wash all the pumpkin stuff off the seeds...then lay them out on some kitchen roll to dry off..store some where nice and dry in a brown paper bag..I love growing my own stuff and watching the grandchildrens excitement at the results

Kitty10 I have them on tin foil currently. I’ll put them on paper towel once I’ve done the school run. Thank you

They're fairly easy to grow, we did it accidentally one year as we had pumpkin seeds in our compost 😂Just give the seeds a wash and leave to dry, then store ready for next year.

Midnightflower 😂 haha I love that you did it accidentally ! I filled my hanging basket one year with lettuce as I didn’t know what the plants were 🤦🏼‍♀️

reannsgran that's a good way to stop the slugs and snails getting them! You could start a new trend 😂

It's all about the environment(soil). If you grow stuff in pots always make sure there's room enough and that you use good quality soil and assure that it's well attended to.In Canada and the US they have honed pumpkin growing to a fine art. One this year 2,000+lbs! Image
