What Interesting Days out Have You Had This Summer.

Other

No holiday this year but trying to keep occupied. In July went to a medieval fayre in Colchester and enjoyed the stalls, dancing and knights in mock battles.

But more excited for tomorrow for a trip to Hever Castle for the last weekend of jousting this season. Am treating my bestie and her grandson as he is 8 and i am sure he will love it.

What have you all been up to?

Went to Great Yarmouth for 4 days. Never been that way before. That was very seasidey. Quite fortunate to live near sea as well and have some nice local places. I love Arundel. Parents live in Brighton. I have been to Hever years ago and absolutely loved it. Recently went to National Trust at Nymans which was a lovely day but we had a gift card. Otherwise it’s expensive. That was for our anniversary though.

JLouM wow, you have been busy. Not sure if I have been to Gt Yarmouth, maybe as a kid. Arundel yes, lovely place, I am into castles. This will be my 3rd visit to Hever, went into the small castle both times but this time can't be bothered queuing to wander around roped off areas so will have a picnic in the grounds. It is only £15.50 for seniors without castle so I think that is very reasonable as jousting is included.

Waddesdon Manor Gardens HP18 0JH and FairyTale Farm OX7 5QH

Both some great places, a beautiful day with my partner walking around the gardens and my niece at FairTale Farm, thanks to the Lottery Days out scheme.

Local markets and walks in the country and towns. Trips to the parks with the little ones.

We've also got ourselves a hand casting kit to do at home 😁

I envy those who can walk in nice green areas, I live in a concrete jungle lol!

Yorkshire is known as God's Own County..x

House sat in Halstead. Didn't realise there was so much beautiful countryside. Had a few days in Yarmouth. After watching Last Christmas, I look up when out and about. I've visited Yarmouth many times and missed so much

Pjran two things that can ruin a day out, weather and traffic! The Dartford tunnel is notorious for long delays, we have to use it today so fingers crossed. Glad you had a lovely day, traffic aside.

We took my mother in law and Granny to Culloden Battlefield and took them to visit local places near us. Otherwise we had a pretty quiet summer.

MrsCraig I think I would cry if I went there, it is said to have a very strong atmosphere.

I am an absolutely mad fan of 'Outlander' and will be gutted when it ends. Have read all the books too.

Lynibis it is a very emotive place. We learned about the Jacobites in school. I grew up about half an hour away from the Battlefield, so we had a few school trips there.

MrsCraig when I watch programmes like Outlander I am always moved to learn more and study the subject myself. If more people learned the lessons of history we wouldn't keep making the same mistakes.

Sugarbabe yes it is one of the best. It took me a while to get used to Claire's character but Sam was made for that part. My friend and I have done half of series 7 but have to wait until next heart for the last half. I believe it ends after series 8. Have you read the books?

I try to avoid going out and about in August and wait until the children go back to school. Not my children as they are all adults. Still trying to decide where to go for a holiday.

eyeballkerry don't blame you. I don't like August for very different reason....wasps. Whilst watching the jousting yesterday was flapping and jumping around as the nasty little monsters kept buzzing round as everyone was yomping picnics and ice creams. Yes, I know but I have a fear of wasps for some reason.

eyeballkerry can't see the point of them myself. Not too keen on bees but at least they don't seem so aggressive and we definitely need them!

Partner is absolutely terrified of Moths,I just tell him they are "Night Butterflies" but it doesn't work!! X

Don't particularly like moths but not scared of them.

janphoenix51 That is amazing. I don’t really want to kill them. My daughter purchased a great gadget where you cam caught most insects in it. It has long bristles at the end with caught the insect when you squeeze the handle. Best catcher we have ever had and does not kill them

On Friday we popped to Bletchley Park (once the top-secret home of the World War Two Codebreakers) been meaning to go for years but never go around to it. It's only just over half an hour from where I live and it was well worth the visit, very interesting.

TiaTia I went there years ago as part of the journey home from somewhere and I found it very fascinating with all the different code machines. Watched some films but didn’t do tea as wasn’t there for long. Also where the ladies as code breakers worked in secret.
