Lynibis ....Well,there are some beautiful places around without going abroad, I'm from Sheffield, known as one of the greenest cities in Europe, on the edge of the beautiful Peaks District.

Yorkshire is known as God's Own County..x

janphoenix51 I definitely want to visit York, so much history way back to the Vikings. I have heard of the shambles and want to shop there too

Lynibis ,God daughter lived in York,too expensive for her & she has a good job, ended up moving back to her Grandparents in Sheffield for now,23 next week..

Chester is lovely, full of history too,like York,you can walk the City Walls..

Pjran two things that can ruin a day out, weather and traffic! The Dartford tunnel is notorious for long delays, we have to use it today so fingers crossed. Glad you had a lovely day, traffic aside.

MrsCraig I think I would cry if I went there, it is said to have a very strong atmosphere.

I am an absolutely mad fan of 'Outlander' and will be gutted when it ends. Have read all the books too.

Lynibis it is a very emotive place. We learned about the Jacobites in school. I grew up about half an hour away from the Battlefield, so we had a few school trips there.

MrsCraig when I watch programmes like Outlander I am always moved to learn more and study the subject myself. If more people learned the lessons of history we wouldn't keep making the same mistakes.

My hubby and me are binge watching Outlander and we are hooked.

Up to series 5 so still a long time to catch up.

Sugarbabe yes it is one of the best. It took me a while to get used to Claire's character but Sam was made for that part. My friend and I have done half of series 7 but have to wait until next heart for the last half. I believe it ends after series 8. Have you read the books?

Jinky67 on that's a shame, finances or just don't want to. I must say a family day out can be very expensive but plenty of parks for a picnic and ball game.

eyeballkerry don't blame you. I don't like August for very different reason....wasps. Whilst watching the jousting yesterday was flapping and jumping around as the nasty little monsters kept buzzing round as everyone was yomping picnics and ice creams. Yes, I know but I have a fear of wasps for some reason.

Lynibis We had loads in the garden this summer and tried everything to get rid, in the end we had to call somebody out to do it. All gone now.

eyeballkerry can't see the point of them myself. Not too keen on bees but at least they don't seem so aggressive and we definitely need them!

Lynibis ...I just call my partner he is the Wasp Whisperer, he just let's the Wasp climb aboard his finger & takes it outside,he waits for it to fly off,NEVER been stung yet!! X

Partner is absolutely terrified of Moths,I just tell him they are "Night Butterflies" but it doesn't work!! X

janphoenix51 wow that's incredible. My automatic response to a wasp is to dance around waving my arms like a lunatic.

Don't particularly like moths but not scared of them.

janphoenix51 That is amazing. I don’t really want to kill them. My daughter purchased a great gadget where you cam caught most insects in it. It has long bristles at the end with caught the insect when you squeeze the handle. Best catcher we have ever had and does not kill them

TiaTia I knew about Bletchley Park but wasn't sure it would be worth a visit. Although I love history I am not really in to recent history but glad you had a nice day out and enjoyed it.

Lynibis Wasn't really sure what to expect but found it very interesting, we took the guided tour and then wandered around on our our, managed to spend 3 hours there and enjoyed tea and cake in the canteen.

TiaTia I went there years ago as part of the journey home from somewhere and I found it very fascinating with all the different code machines. Watched some films but didn’t do tea as wasn’t there for long. Also where the ladies as code breakers worked in secret.

jms19 the weather has been brilliant for me, can't bear it over 25°.

Pjran went to Christmas eve service there a few years ago, sister lives quite near, lovely place.

Pjran Brighton is rarely quiet these days but yes hot weather brings everyone out. We went to Littlehampton today and just as heaving.

JLouM I’ve never been to Littlehampton, is a good flat area? With lots of restaurants?

Pfs if I went on holiday to a shop it would have to be in Oxford street where I could spend the money I saved by not going on holiday lol

Lynibis I agree with you. I last went to London more than 20 years ago, so I expect it has "gone to the dogs" now. But I am hoping to visit London soon for a wedding, so I will have a good excuse for sight seeing and shopping.
