What Interesting Days out Have You Had This Summer.
Other
No holiday this year but trying to keep occupied. In July went to a medieval fayre in Colchester and enjoyed the stalls, dancing and knights in mock battles.
But more excited for tomorrow for a trip to Hever Castle for the last weekend of jousting this season. Am treating my bestie and her grandson as he is 8 and i am sure he will love it.
What have you all been up to?
Waddesdon Manor Gardens HP18 0JH and FairyTale Farm OX7 5QH
Both some great places, a beautiful day with my partner walking around the gardens and my niece at FairTale Farm, thanks to the Lottery Days out scheme.
Local markets and walks in the country and towns. Trips to the parks with the little ones.
We've also got ourselves a hand casting kit to do at home
We went to Portugal and Albufeira. It was lovely. If you go more on the sticks it's not so touristy and lovely
...
That's me,high up on the cliff top walking the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail in Portugal..
Sounds lovely, I have never been to Portugal but I am sure I would love it due to it's history etc.
Lynibis ...
If you get a chance to go to Portugal take it,..
So much to see & do,
great Sea Food too,
the people are friendly,
& the sea is blue,
hope that I've sold it to you!
janphoenix51 how can I resist with such a poetic recommendation, however, I have sworn off foreign travel and my passport has run out lol
Lynibis ....Well,there are some beautiful places around without going abroad, I'm from Sheffield, known as one of the greenest cities in Europe, on the edge of the beautiful Peaks District.
Yorkshire is known as God's Own County..x
janphoenix51 I definitely want to visit York, so much history way back to the Vikings. I have heard of the shambles and want to shop there too
Lynibis ,God daughter lived in York, too expensive for her & she has a good job, ended up moving back to her Grandparents in Sheffield for now,23 next week..
Chester is lovely, full of history too, like York, you can walk the City Walls..
You can always be assured of a warm welcome from us Yorkshire folk!
House sat in Halstead. Didn't realise there was so much beautiful countryside. Had a few days in Yarmouth. After watching Last Christmas, I look up when out and about. I've visited Yarmouth many times and missed so much
PaulaClark487 one of my last jobs was escorting an elderly gentleman to his new care home near Halstead, you are right it is beautiful round that way.
Today we spent the day at RHS Wisley. So lucky with the weather absolutely glorious but the traffic!
We took my mother in law and Granny to Culloden Battlefield and took them to visit local places near us. Otherwise we had a pretty quiet summer.
I try to avoid going out and about in August and wait until the children go back to school. Not my children as they are all adults. Still trying to decide where to go for a holiday.
eyeballkerry don't blame you. I don't like August for very different reason....wasps. Whilst watching the jousting yesterday was flapping and jumping around as the nasty little monsters kept buzzing round as everyone was yomping picnics and ice creams. Yes, I know but I have a fear of wasps for some reason.
Lynibis We had loads in the garden this summer and tried everything to get rid, in the end we had to call somebody out to do it. All gone now.
eyeballkerry can't see the point of them myself. Not too keen on bees but at least they don't seem so aggressive and we definitely need them!
Lynibis ...I just call my partner he is the Wasp Whisperer, he just let's the Wasp climb aboard his finger & takes it outside,he waits for it to fly off,NEVER been stung yet!! X
Partner is absolutely terrified of Moths,I just tell him they are "Night Butterflies" but it doesn't work!! X
janphoenix51 wow that's incredible. My automatic response to a wasp is to dance around waving my arms like a lunatic.
Don't particularly like moths but not scared of them.
janphoenix51 That is amazing. I don’t really want to kill them. My daughter purchased a great gadget where you cam caught most insects in it. It has long bristles at the end with caught the insect when you squeeze the handle. Best catcher we have ever had and does not kill them
On Friday we popped to Bletchley Park (once the top-secret home of the World War Two Codebreakers) been meaning to go for years but never go around to it. It's only just over half an hour from where I live and it was well worth the visit, very interesting.
Went over to Barcelona for a couple of weeks and had day trips to Tarragona, Gerona & Montserrat. Not managed any uk day trips this summer cause the weather has been pretty bad
We’ve just returned from a day in Salisbury. Had a wonderful knowledgeable guide around the cathedral.
We went to Brighton this week assuming it would be quiet now the kids are back to school but the glorious weather sent hoards to the beach.
