In the News

The body of Jay slater has been found and confirmed as his. Very sad that it's happened. He was found near to where he fell.

I find it madness that they looked there and didn't find him something is not right with the whole thing

Leannexxx I know it's very odd. They said it was inaccessible but someone clearly got there to find him. I'm not into conspiracy theories but I can see why people are going with that. I feel we aren't being told every thing

Jerseydrew yeah good points but surely they have some sort of procedure for this sort of thing. It is a very odd case though

Leannexxx Nothing really added up with this whole sad story. They say his phone was located where they found him but they had already traced that. More going on then he just had an ‘accident’.

Jerseydrew no and we won't find out everything in all honesty I don't think the police have looked where they said they did coz the mother paid for some people to help and they found him

He was a gang member involved with drugs/machetes (he and his buddies opened a guy's head with a machete) so there's probably more to that story. Whatever about the two guys he met up with? And so on.

PhilipMarc Apparently he also nicked a Rolex from someone in Airbnb he stayed in Tenerife, sad story nevertheless.

SebK84 I read about that. If true, it's no wonder they tracked him around the island and got it back.

Well, either the Rolex folks or the two guys did him... We don't know.

PhilipMarc There is definitely a lot more going on then just a young lad going on holiday and getting lost. The truth may never come out.

I'm confused as to why he didn't walk the route of the road??? Why go through rough terrain, it makes no sense to me at all.

Easy way to kill someone by pushing them off somewhere so they fall down and then let the baking heat do the rest. Strange that the Dr Mosley death was only recently in the news that had a similar situation. I feel suspicious about this especially as the person in question was not the innocent person presented by the media but a vile violent individual and gangs selling drugs are extremely competitive with each other plus revenge could have been motivation for this. We will see what happens but it feels like the real story hasn't come out yet. We don't know the details yet but we can guess it will be along the lines of a violent individual meeting a violent end.

There are a couple of good investigations on YouTube. One by an ex metropolitan police inspector and another who does tv series about unsolved crimes and both are often interviewed on programmes like GMB.

As others have said he was no innocent but I guess that's irrelevant.

Lynibis What were those two guys doing with him before they left? It's relevant.

PhilipMarc I meant that someone dying in those circumstances is never good, despite any previous criminality. Though it might be seen as Karma. They say he stole an expensive watch, I guess someone will write a book in due course.

It seems strange to me he left the place he had stayed that night without charging his phone or taking water for an 11 hour walk when a bus was due in 2.5 hours.

Lynibis if the media had been honest about Slater's past maybe people would be more forgiving about him, but they painted him as a saint. A teen saint, no less.

Yes, a 19 year old is technically a teen although not what I'd expect a real teen to be (i.e. a 12-13 year old kid).

Anyway, where's the £30k or so that people donated to?

PhilipMarc I don't know how easy it is to refund donations to the donors. If it is not possible I guess it will be given to a charity or similar. Maybe even to his family to cover their 'expenses' and the funeral.

PhilipMarc I saw somewhere that donations were up to sixty eight thousand and the family has stated it will be used to bring back the body etc but someone else stated these costs are normally paid by holiday insurance. I don't think such donations are properly vetted in how they are spent so there is probably no reason they can't be spent in anyway they want. It's not like that woman who spent the donations on a house extension without planning permission so had to be demolished and they lost the ability to be directors of a charity. This isn't a charity its just people sending them money so they can do what they want with it.

In summary I don't think there is a legally binding contract between the person giving money and those receiving it in this situation.

The Judge felt the gang had no regrets for this violent attack and lets face it this person probably would have continued to commit violence against others throughout his life.

There is a guy that went missing in Lanzarote March 2023 called Gary . He has never been found and there was hardly any News coverage. We have wondered why this guy had so much News coverage. Loads of tourists and the police involved in the search and they still haven’t found him.

The area where he was found is very inhospitable and only available for trekking with a guide and there is only one road through the region. Some pictures (sorry they're a blurred) from my recent trip taken from bus, sometime you couldn't see the road because of drop or cloud. Image Image Image Image Image

It's really really sad. I really feel for the family and friends. That's what we need to keep sight of it's someone's son, grandson, friend etc. A human being. Yes he's not perfect, nobody is. He has done wrong and you can't make excuses for that but we don't know the full reasons why. I feel there is more to this story and some questions are probley going to remain unanswered. At least his family can bring him home and lay him to rest. I suppose that's going to be of some comfort.

It's really and like it's been said why didn't he stick to the road. The police supposedly searched the area. What about the 2 men. Did he take the watch? Were they known to him? He had been part of a gang is it linked? Tenerife is kicking off over tourists is it a case of oh well it's just another drunk brit tourist who cares, it might put some tourists off coming over here.

Very sad loss of a young life, no matter what he did in the past.

I notice however his Mother is already asking for people to donate more to the gofundme page, so they can "give him the send off he deserves"

When did this whole thing of asking strangers to pay for funerals become a thing?

nobody wants to pay for a funeral, and yes they are expensive, but sadly it's a cost we will all have to endure, often more than once.
