Landlines Phones, Do You Have One?

Ask a Question

Just interested to know how many people have or use landlines phones in their home. I personally have one, but it just sits there unused, I genuinely can't even remember what it sounds like when rings! My household rely on their mobiles to make calls

Sounds like I'm not alone in only having it for Internet!

I have one but it’s not plugged in. I keep it for emergency purposes in case there’s a power cut

Gromit22 We have been put over to the new digital system so now if we have a power cut the phone is useless (as it is plugged in and needs a power supply)!

I didn’t realise that had now happened everywhere

It’s not all progress, you have a powercut and for example need an ambulance as not everyone has a mobile phone and also it could be out of battery

Completely stuffed!

I have one for back up and to keep contact with elderly parents. It also has answer machine. Has proved useful when network goes down.

Yes, we have a landline as we only use a mobile phone (not connected to the internet) for emergencies when we are out in the car. We have a package of xx minutes of call time on the landline to suit us, which is far cheaper than paying for a mobile phone contract (or two). Mobile coverage around here varies between very poor to bl**dy awful.

We still have a home phone. Only the broadband rings it though lol. Good to know your home phone number incase you've lost your mobile or like others have said - for emergencies.

I still have a land line and I still use it now and again as my calls are free as they are included in the package with my broadband

We got rid of ours years ago. When my son was a toddler he kept hiding it.

Nope, we got rid of it years ago as have unlimited calls on our mobiles. The only who rang it were my inlaws and my mum, so thought there is no point paying for them to ring us.

We have a landlines because of the Internet but we don't have a landline phone. I don't even know what our landlines number is!

That is exactly the same as me! My tv/Internet package was quite alot cheaper to have a landlines included.whixh seems strange!

Our tv/Internet package was much cheaper without the landline calls included. We used to have a landline phone in our old house but never used it, so got it taken off and saved £20 a month.

I have a landline only for the internet. I don''t use my landline as I would be charged for making calls. All my family uses their mobile phones.

My landline is for incoming calls, my mobile for outgoing calls. It costs much less with mobile on pay as you go (1p a minute with a charge of £2.50 monthly which gives 250 minutes (or 250 texts) a month or £3 a month for unlimited calls and texts, than the "call package charges" of the landline providers (necessary for broadband).

There is a minimum saving of over £100 annually using my method and you get the best of both worlds. Never losing the landline for use in emergencies.

With a pay as you go mobile package, this does sound a good way to do things.

vixe80 It's the best way for those who don't require much data. £2.50 a month (£30 annually) for those who don't use a phone much or £3 a month, £36 a year for those wanting unlimited calls and texts.

If anyone can find any telecom company that charges less than £3 a month for anytime call package to landlines and mobiles. Please let us all know?

Try explaining that to anyone who doesn't actually require access to broadband to ditch their landline and save over £200 a year - they'll usually ask "Where's the catch?"😀

We have one, but only because it's part of the package. My parents use it at times to receive calls, but I never do.

I only have mine for the internet too. It's a pain and a drain on finances.

Landlines are normally phased out but I actually just got a phone for it, the connection came bundled with Internet so got a phone.... its never rang once

I did have a phone plugged in for about six months when renewed broadband/TV package - it never rang so thought it pointless waste of electric having phone plugged in, unplugged it and not had one for a few years now

We don't have a landline phone, we do have a cable for it but never had an actual phone. My mam has one but it barely rings and it sounds so weird when it does ring!

That's funny, I actually think I would agree it must be weird hearing a landline ring- can't remember last.time I did!

We pay for a line but that was because we needed to with broadband, things have changed now.

We don't have our phone plugged in as no one ever rang, unless they were looking for the person who previously had the number. I have the number stored but I don't know what it is off the top of my head, I probably wouldn't recognise it either 😆 We switched numbers when we moved 10 years ago and I hadn't needed it and we haven't had our phone plugged in for 2 years now.

Same here. I don't really understand why broadband package cheaper with a phone line (via Virgin) if it isn't being used.

I do and always have (kinda), never had a phone plugged in to it though and always comes part of a broadband package, I have no idea what my number is. I think most new lines should you change broadband supplier will not be the same as a traditional line due to becoming digital and plug in to router/modem so if the power or internet go you loose phone too

This is true, therefore landlines phone not very helpful if Internet down.

We still have our landline but never use it. The only time we answer it is if we either know the number or are expecting someone to call who doesn't have our mobile numbers.
