Losing a Pet and Do You Replace?
Ask a Question
My chinchilla died during the night but I will not be replacing him. But how long do you wait between the passing of your pet and a new one?
Sorry for your loss, I don't think there is a set timeline. It should be what's best for the owner and when there ready.
Midnightflower I did have three dogs at one time and they died one after the other. It’s wasn’t until the last one went it felt really odd. Haven’t replaced with another dog yet!
Awww sorry for your loss but I don't think there is a right time to get another pet it's want you feel comfortable with my family dog passed in first lockdown and I've been thinking of getting another one for my dad as I'm not allowed where I live but he's saying no he doesn't want any more
Sorry for your loss. My last cat died 2021. Not got another one. If I did they wouldn't be a replacement just a new addition. You can't replace a family member which pets are
Jerseydrew Sorry, I may have used the wrong word in replace. As a pet owner, you can not replace a pet.
Aww sorry for your loss I don't know when the right time would be I havnt lost a pet from when I was young I will be devastated when that time comes just wait until you feel you want another one hope your ok big hugs huni
Sorry for your loss, it can be very tough. For me I don’t have a set time of how long i wait, just when it feels right but never too soon
After my dog passed I was upset for a while and I didn’t want to get another dog. When I go for a long walk I’m happy to see lots of different types of dog’s which are friendly.
You never truly replace a pet they're one of a kind, you won't get one identically in personality and that's what makes each special. It depends on the pet and how I feel I guess you just know when you're ready to give your home up to a new pet
Over the years I have lost a great many pets. It's always oh so sad because they become like family members.I usually replace them after a few months.Never the same of course but it's always nice to give a stray a good home .They all have their own little personalities and the new adoptee is invariably lovely as well.
Sorry for your loss, I waited 4 years after losing my last dog, I said I wouldn't get another, but I ended up rescuing one from an alcoholic who was treating it terribly
So sorry for your loss eyeballkerry our four paws are never on this earth long enough, l lost my first dog at 13 years and it took me 15 years to get Pepper my Hungarian Vizsla who is now 12 & half years. We've gone from nipping me, running along the beach to now sleeping most of the day with stiff joints due to arthritis...I'll miss her deeply when she sleeps for the final time but l will never get another this time.
