The RNLI in Devon had to be called out when a giant inflatable duck , nicknamed Quackers, floated too far out to sea for the passengers to get back ashore
You would expect the people rescued to be children or even teens, but no, these were three grown men !!
They were only 200 metres from shore when rescued , so i take it the idiots could not swim that far
With this type of incident involving 'mature' individuals i believe they should be fined and the cost of the rescue be paid back ,these organisations are strapped for cash as it is

You are wrong about the RNLI and the Coastguard not being involved, both were if you read the article
Three men who were swept out to sea on an inflatable duck have been rescued, thanks to the RNLI and a member of the public.
The trio entered the sea on the inflatable along with a friend in an inflatable kayak from Westward Ho! beach, but quickly got into trouble, on the evening of Tuesday 6 June.
Within five minutes, they had drifted around 75 metres out to sea and another friend in a kayak was unsuccessful in trying to push them back to shore.
An eyewitness then called the Coastguard when the three men on the duck ended up 200 metres away from shore.
Volunteers for Appledore RNLI were already out on the water doing training exercises when they were notified about the shout and went to Westward Ho! beach.
Meanwhile, a member of the public set out on his paddleboard to help the men being washed out to sea.
I hate inflatables in the sea for this reason. They are so dangerous I won't let my child have them. In a swimming pool they are ok but there's still a risk of drowning if someone gets under one and can't get out. I live by the sea so really funny about this sort of thing. It's so easy for these things to get taken out quickly
Jerseydrew I agree J , they need licencing with insurance , especially when causing the lifeboat to be launched
What a waste of time and resources for adults who should of known better. This is just the start, as it happens every year. I will never understand how people do not understand the basics. Respect the water it is dangerous!

A similar story happened down my way. A young woman was filming herself for Only Fans when the tide came in and she got stuck in a cave. She had to call the RNLI. Fair enough. But she went back to cave to do it all again.
There’s stories like this every year and people never seem to learn. The sea can be very dangerous but people don’t seen to realise that
Why should our quackxes be used on idiots like this they should have to pay for the rescue and shouldn’t be allowed to duck the bill
telmel Hey, seems the thread is mysteriously unlocked again, so you can reply to me, and I can respond to your comments you added in the description. In neither the BBC article you originally posted, nor the ITV one you have edited in afterwards does it say that the coast gaurd were involved. The coast gaurd were called by an eyewitness, but did not attend. The RNLI were already in the water doing training exercises too, and the only thing they rescued was the inflatable duck. The addition of 'that far' to your original statement of "the idiots could not swim" did not slip past me either 
All's well that ends well, though, that's what matters. Nobody hurt, helpful members of the public doing their bit, and the RNLI doing their duty with a smile on their face.

The RNLI is a charity, independent of the government. So high taxes have nothing to do with it. You're thinking of the coast gaurd, which did not get involved. In fact, if you actually read the article, the RNLI didn't need to rescue them either.
"A paddleboarder managed to bring the duck closer to the shore and the men swam to the safety of the beach." So yes, they could swim.
It might be worth actually reading something in it's entirety before getting angry and calling for inflatable toys to be licensed and insured. Goodness me 
F, i was referring to the coastguard regarding taxes, as the taxpayer pays their wages and yes the RNLI is a charity which cannot afford to spend valuable donations on the costs involved with the idiot 'three men in a boat'
Yes they did eventually swim, they could have done this in the first place to avoid all the drama and wasting the time of the rescue services
I was angry over this as i am sure the rescue service was with this type of thing happening , although they were smiling when photographed with Quackers
And i am sure the regulars who know me recognised some of my comments were tongue in cheek , especially the licencing comment , i noticed you are relatively new on here , so maybe have taken my comments to heart

telmel I can assure you nothing has been taken to heart on my part. Thankfully, as stated in the articles, the coastguard was called, but they did not need to attend. Appledore RNLI were already in the water at location when the shout was received. So, no resources will have been used which weren't already being used in the training exercise. The net bill for both the coast gaurd and the RNLI will have been approximately zero.
I am glad the people on the duck were at least sensible enough not to try to swim to shore from 200 meters out. It doesn't seem like far, but without breaks, there is potential for danger at that distance. At least that's what they tell you in lifegaurd training - especially when coupled with panic and potential currents.
At the end of the day, I prefer to be grateful that everyone is okay than angry at the event itself, especially when no valuable resources were used by any party. And the fact a member of the public was able to help them gives me that little bit more faith in humanity.
Most rescues at sea are entirely avoidable, but accidents do happen. Nobody sets out to get into a crisis on the water. That's why we have the RNLI and the Coastguard.
