What Was the Appropriate Punishment for Lucy Letby Killing 7 Babies?

In the News

Should she have been made to face the judge, and be told her guilty charge for killing 7 babies, and Should she been made to listen to her punishment......

I guess her not bothering to take her place in the dock for sentencing was just another act of complete disregard and denial on her part.

I heard someone on the radio suggest that offenders who refuse to face the judge for sentencing should have an extra 2 years tacked onto their sentence, But since Letby got whole life terms that wouldn't have made a jot of difference.

blacklabrador totally agree with you, she's made a complete mockery of the judicial system......I think that's a great idea about putting extra time onto their sentences, hopefully they may think about what they have done.....thanks for commenting as this news story really got myself and my partner angry.....

blacklabrador I can see where Lucy Letby gets her complete disregard for the law from. Her parents did not turn up to court to hear the judge's verdict or the impact statements from their daughter victims parents. And to add insult to the dead babies her parents are considering moving to be near her to visit her! Not once has Letby's parents shown any emotion regarding their daughter's behaviour - a murderer.

I agree that she should be made to attend, although as you say any additional penalty for not attending is pretty worthless. Im not really sure it would have had any effect on her but she shouldn't be allowed to have that choice

didbygraham so glad that everybody I've spoken to since she was sentenced have the same reaction and disgust as she is just trying to control right to the end....I'm sure prisoners will make her life hell...

Bonnylass3 Given that she will in prison with a lot of women who are mothers, I doubt she will have an easy time! That's justice.

She should be made to listen to her charge and punishment in Court. Should be made to listen to families statements if not in court in her cell.

JLouM totally agree....she's such a coward, and those families have had to sit and hear all the sad details of what she did.....think we need to petition the Government and make it mandatory....thanks for your comment

Leannexxx I reckon she'll get her comeuppance when she reaches jail, but I did hear on Radio 4 that they get put on a special wing for the vulnerable.....The judge should have been more forceful and demanded she be bought up.....complete joke

Lucy Letby has shown no remorse apparently, lock her up and throw away the key. I hope those families she ruined can get back some normality in their lives.

Lucy Letby is definitely mentally ill, she should be in a place like Broadmoor. There's no way that a normal person would commit such heinous crimes

Having read all comments several points spring to mind.

Leannexxx I have always said human rights usually has the opposite effect in that when one person gets their human rights, others lose theirs or suffer for it.

Secondly, of course this woman didn't show remorse. She does not have a conscience, if she did she would have stopped after the first murder as her guilt would have consumed her.

I doubt very much that the other inmates will have much contact with her, as much for their own protection as hers. After all, she is in prison for the rest of her life so there is nothing to stop her murdering anyone who crosses her. Beverley Allitt is in the same prison, different wing, and as far as I know she has come to no harm, I could be wrong.

Lastly, I do not believe in the death penalty as it makes us no better than other countries who have it and we look down on them. However, if sentenced to a whole of life tariff I do feel the criminal should be offered a choice of death by self administered drugs under supervision to make sure they are not hidden. People may say that is not a punishment but isn't the world a better place without people like that in it?

I am intrigued by the human mind and why people make the choices they do. I would like to know how this woman was raised, her character prior to her crimes and whether someone is born with defects of the brain, just as we can be born with defects of the body. One day maybe we will find out.

Lynibis is not a punishment in my eyes she's got everything she needs in there apart from freedom and she wouldn't murder anyone else because she only kills innocent baby's who can't defend themselves I do see your point on the matter tho I just see if differently

Leannexxx oh I agree with you totally and If I were a cruel person I would see her punished within prison too, but tbh I like to think I am better than that and would not like to be as bad as those monsters locked away.

I actually don't think she will have an easy time as she'll mostly be in solitary and I think the wardens will find a way to withhold privileges. No one will want to befriend her and she will spend the rest of her life wondering if her crime was worth the payment.

She should of been made to attend Court no matter what. She lost her rights when she took those babies lives.

She should have been forced to go to court and for people like that, they should make an exception and bring in the death penalty.

If we had the death penalty there would still be people who are no longer here after they had been murdered . The people who committed the murder would certainly think long and hard that if we had the death penalty they could be at risk of being caught and have to face the death penalty and that should be Lucy Letby shouldn't be in prison for the rest of her life .She should be put through the same pain she inflicted on the poor defenceless babies she targeted .

The words of the victim statements should be painted on the walls of her cell so that she has to face them daily in my opinion.

Death penalty but since that's too harsh for criminals in the U.K., her inmates might do actual justice.

In these situations I think the death penalty is appropriate. She will never come out of prison and has committed such evil that there is no way she can be reintegrated into society
