My employer reduced my full-time employment years ago to part-time. I can picture him reducing the hours soon due to lack of customers, rent increase, etc.

jam45 How do you feel about that?

It good that its been raised with the cost of living so high but as jam45 says lots of employers will cut hours to reduce the cost. Restaurants and pubs are notorious for it, so it's not always helpful.

best news all day a payrise, could really do with this especially with the government help with gas and electric coming to an end

Personally I do not think its fair on younger people. My 2 older boys have both worked since they left school at 16 and left home to live in a rented house together at 19 and 20 - when you are younger, you don't get cheap rent, gas, electric or council tax so why should you get paid less? I have always said this and now my daughter in law who is a carer has just turned 22 with a 9 month old baby so she doesn't get the full amount until she turns 23 in December - not very well thought out at all.

I never really thought of that before but you’re right. Just because you’re younger you don’t get cheaper bills. Also I’m sure these younger ones work as hard if not harder for less money than others doing the same job. I believe they really need to rethink it. I suppose they were thinking most kids stay at home now till they’re well into their mid twenties (basically cos they can’t afford to move out)

Yes this is great 😊 iam really glad it's going up but a lot of works will struggle to pay it especially with the price of gas and electricity going up again a lot will probably cut people's hours or have pay offs

I think it's unfair on people who are now closer in wages to trained employees for doing nothing and the trained employee can do nothing. I'm in this situation and it definitely makes you resentful. They should be dealing with the profiteering and overcharging rather than wages.

It still isn't enough with the cost of everything now plus they need to also increase the wages that are just above too if they will lose supervisors etc
