What is Your Oldest Piece of Tech?
Ask a Question
What is the oldest piece of tech you still own?
Maybe an old phone stuffed in a drawer? Or you still use an old ipod?
I've been getting old VHS tapes to use for crafts (I've made the covers into notebooks) So i've just got hold of an old player so we can watch the tapes
I've got an old Commodore Pet computer of mine which I have bought down from my mother's loft. It's from the 70s. Not checked it out yet though. Also got a Roberts radio which I think is from the 80s.
SamGoodship Yeah it's probably not much more powerful than a Sinclair ZX81 if you can remember those but then it was designed in the 70s not 80s. Amazingly they are still writing demos for it;
It has to be my frogger game which I would have got in the eighties. Absolutely love it. Was always getting the high score, then it went back to zero. It’s in the loft somewhere, not sure it still works but seen on eBay for £80.
RegularComper90 That's the first games console I ever owned. I absolutely loved it and almost wore it out it got used so much.
Got floppy disks, VHS tapes, VHS players, some vinyl discs and a player.
If someone doesn't know what a floppy disk looks like:
lesleygranny There was a time I had loads of vinyl discs because someone threw them out and then I sold to some guy who collected them. He lived somewhere abroad.
I still have a vinyl disc collection of Country Music and a vinyl player. I've recently bought a device to convert the two audio cables coming from the player and turn it into a headphone jack.
(From AliExpress for £2.20)
It has a USB-C as a means to boot it up so that's certainly nicer than using an older USB type.
JLouM I still love old digital cameras. I have a Fuji ZX900EXR which I guess is about 12 years old and use it for my ebay listings and just keeping in my backpack for shots. It definitely takes better pictures than my phone which is computational photography. I.e. it has a tiny sensor which creates a lot of grain but the mobile phones processing power means it can remove a lot of the grain and improve the image but its not a true image like a digital camera and you can also enhance those images with a computer anyway if you want the same result or better. Also my camera is scratched to hell using it on the beach etc. I don't want to do that to my phone.
Original iPod classic 80gb (the one with the screen), fully working and in the original box! IPhone 4 that needs the battery replaced so can get my photos off it.
