The Pros of Decluttering?

Ask a Question

I want to be a minimalist (have much less stuff) but the problem is that I'm a hoarder at the moment. I'm determined to change things but at my speed.

This is a good idea! I think the main pro for me is the less clutter around me, the more it helps focus my mind on things that actually matter. Good luck 😃

Consumer thank you. Yes the clutter does somewhat take up a lot of my thought time.

It’s always a good idea to have a clear out from time to time. It makes living easier.

I'm a terrible hoarder. I tend to buy stuff when I can get it really cheap and intend to use it or sell it on for a profit but I buy more than I sell. I think part of the issue is I have not been financially secure and have a mortgage to pay for so its created a bad mindset. I sell about £1000 a month on ebay but these are mainly old computer magazines I've kept for years with a small amount of other stuff. My new year resolution is definitely to start taking from the overall pile rather than adding to it. However I have managed to make a decent amount of overpayments on my mortgage. I'm probably about 18 months ahead of my payments, maybe about £9k of overpayments. I'd really like to clear my mortgage within about 3 years if possible which if I can keep to the same overpayments is possible.

I don't do clutter. I will regularly have clear outs. Anything that I can sell I will do and put the money into savings.

When I declutter I do a small section at a time, focus on decluttering one section before doing another.

You will so much better when you have decluttered. You have to come to terms with the stuff you collect is only stuff and you can live without it. Try selling some of it and you will feel so much better.

I have so much stuff in my home ATM.

I have a large family but moving from a 7 bedroom property to a 2 bed house (after the kids moved out) you tend to end up with what they don't take with them 😱

I'm also one of those people who buys stuff i.e. clothes, when they are on offer or during sales but I have lost a lot of weight, (which has stayed off) so now have a surplus of larger clothes, even have clothes never out of the packets!!!

I used to be a very organized person, I really need to sort this out, help

XaxkyaAR I know this will sound harsh but I would pack each kids stuff they left behind in a box and put it outside their door with a note on it, 'your stuff, your responsibility!' Or, alternatively tell them to come and get it or you will charge storage or take to dump.

I am by nature a tidy person and am minamilist in my house, I can sit down, relax and feel a calmness around me when everything is neat and tidy. Anything I don't need or want I try to sell or pass onto charity. Even boxes in the attic are all clearly labelled with contents. Always good to have a declutter.

HEDGEHOGS oh l could mirror all that you said, l love everything tidy and in its place, whenever my sister visits she's says my home is a show home rather than and lived in home and that l have too much time on my hands.. l disagree, nor l cannot leave a mug in the sink overnight 😊

I’m trying to declutter atm in preparation for Xmas. I find it hard as I keep stuff “just in case it comes in handy one day”.

And with the kid’s stuff I have to sneakily bin it or take it to the charity shop as she hates to let things go.

I think not having a lot of stuff is the perfect way of life for me. I like clearer spaces and only have what i need in my home. Not for everyone though and it can be tough for people who get attached to things, to throw them away.

Good luck with the de clutter!

I used to own loads of games, consoles, and anime stuff, but over the years I sold it all and I feel better off without it.

I do buy games now and then though it's just to resell it rather than keep it.

Space. I declutter but keep adding more to it. I take stuff to charity. I'm trying to not spend now. Hopefully it'll last.

You will see wood from the trees and probably cherish items that you keep and give you joy. Check out Mary Kondo ... Was on Netflix at one point.
