How Will Pub Chains Increasing Prices on peak hours Impact Drinking Habits?
Other
Some pub chains are putting price of drinks up during peak hours. What do people think? I'm not a pub goer so not affect but I can see it making people go less or making a pint last 2 hours rather then having 2 or 3 drinks in that time.
I read this yesterday and found it interesting, i think they said 20p a pint increase at peak times. I think that’s not such a big increase that people will stop going.
jms19 it might for some especially in the winter when there's bills to pay. We shall see
Jerseydrew i have no problem with companies putting their prices up when costs increase except for the fact that when/if things go back down in price they don’t then reduce them again.
I no longer frequent pubs but would be less inclined to do so now. I think people who go to pubs regularly will continue to do so but it's becoming a very costly affair.
I did see ths on the news last night but I rarely visit pubs these days so doesn't affect me.
Will the workforce get a 20p rise in the wages?
Will the customer be getting something extra due to the rise in prices?
I was so infuriated in this I emailed the chief executive saying it's glorified profiteering.
Imagine if you went to get fuel and the price changed during the time of the rush hour.
Seems sensible to me. Amazon does it, when they aren't busy at the warehouse prices go down and when they are busy prices go up. It's because the warehouse can only package and send X number of items per day so they control how busy the warehouse is by raising and lowering prices. If pubs are too busy at lunch time it can cause delays in people being served and people going to the pub in their lunch hour may not get served in time. I tend to go in before the lunch break and leave just as its getting very busy. You can see people standing about waiting for a table. I must admit I only go to Wetherspoons as I like pricing to be clear before I order and reasonable. Many pubs are so expensive I avoid them. Also because I'm driving I never drink alcohol in Wetherspoons anyway, its just hot drinks, cold drinks and food for me.
With the number of pubs closing I think they should think of ways to encourage more people to their establishments.
My local pub is not doing this, but it is amazing real pub drinkers are still drinking the same amount although prices have gone up.
I don’t think this is a great idea and personally I’d change pubs. If I thought the increase was being spent on staff in increased wages etc then I’d be happy but I don’t think it will. It’s just pubs being greedy
