Have You Read Harry Potter?
Ask a Question
Have you ever read the Harry Potter Books?
I was shocked when a friend told me they have watched all the films several times but never tried to read the books.
Read the first 4 books really enjoyed them wish I had the them all before the films had come out. The films do leave quite a bit of the story out though which is a shame.
I read the books, read them to my sons and watched the films. The latter showed that Rowling is a story teller, but the quality of her writing is very poor. When reading aloud, I used to cringe at having to repeat the same words and phrases, and shudder at the sentence structure. Her writing is not much better than that of an enthusiastic year 9 student who lacks the intelligence to fulfil their literary dreams.
I couldn't get past the first book as it started off so boring! Have watched all the films several times.
dudessfern Did you watch the films first? I think it helps if you read the books when younger too, I think I was around 10
SamGoodship saw the films first then tried reading the book. Was told once I get past the first book, I would get hooked.
Yes. Loved the series and the films. When I read the first book was laughed at because a lot of people considered it a children’s book
I read the books with my son when he was younger, it was our thing and when the movies came out we used to go to watch them as soon as they were released, except the last 2, as by that time he wanted to go with his mates and I was just the text service
I have read all more than once and watched the films multiple times, even been to the Harry potter experience. Love it all
Auntielettie Do you recommend the experience? Always been curious about it!
SamGoodship yes it was fantastic, don't recommend the butterbeer though. They have added extra things since I went so I'd like to do it again. Don't drive there catch the special bus from Watford train station to add to the experience
I have read all the books and thoroughly enjoyed them . I was getting sad when reading the last two books because I realised Harry’s time at Hogwarts was coming to an end as he was completing his education. Therefore no more books to read . I suppose we got the Fantastic beasts book and short stories but I could have read more and more of Harry Potter adventures. I suppose it’s best to quit while you’re ahead as some authors continue their series of books about a character so you know every tiny detail about them . lol . I have watched a few of the movies but they didn’t live up to the books so I stopped watching them and continued reading . They are so well written that they are suitable for all ages . A great way to encourage children to read a book as it seems reading books are very low on children’s list of priorities. Lol
I read all the books and enjoyed them immensely but couldn't be bothered to watch all the films!
I have never read any of the books nor have I seen any of the films. When they first came out my life was too busy to watch or read them. Maybe one day.
eyeballkerry It all depends on how much you are interested in them I guess,
I've read the books and seen the films. Great series even if jk Rowling isn't the nicest of people
Jerseydrew You can not like a person but still enjoy their works, for sure
Never tried to read them and saw about 5 of the films. I know what happens in the end but just couldn’t sit through a load more films
I've read all of the books, so has my husband. Been meaning to reread them for a while now. Most of my friends have read them too.
I'm not that much of a fan of Harry potter but my wife was and my nephew loves it, I have read 1 book and watched all the movies (they were ok). We have been to the harry potter thing in London a couple of times and also visited universal studios in Florida and Hollywood and see the harry potter bits there.
I've read the books many times and seen the films. One of the films we saw at a tiny cinema and it seemed as the dementors were coming out of the screen right at the beginning as the place was so small
Yes I’ve read all of them many years ago! Watched all the films too back then it was good to watch the films now I’m like should I watch them again? But meh lol
Books are more in depth I’d say you have to read them to fully immerse yourself into the magical world!
I cannot stand hp. Why on earth is it so popular. It’s driving me crazy. Everywhere i go all i see is hp. I went to the 1st film back in early 2000s & fell asleep. Boring
Love love love Harry Potter books they are a lot more detailed than the films and I have kept them since
Used to have them read to me as a kid but after like the 5th stopped not a big Harry Potter fan seen the films but not too interested
I never read the books nor will I but then I only saw a few bits of the film as well.Good but not really my obsession.
