Most Reliable Washing Machine Brand?
Ask a Question
My washing machine has gave up after only 3 years!!
Please can people recommend tge most reliable washing g machine brands, there are so many out there I have no clue which to choose. Needs to be a 10kg.
Thanks in advance
I'm certain that nothing is built to last anymore! We're on our 3rd cooker and 2nd washing machine in 7 years. We've bought a Hotpoint replacement for our washing machine so I'm hoping it lasts.
vixe80 I'm so fed up with having to replace them. It's ridiculous that nothing is built to last anymore.
I just bought the cheapest brand from currys. Think it might have been their own make. Still working after almost 8 years
Def LG or Samsung for me Hotpoint washers only lasted 18 months and my Samsung lasted 8 with almost daily abuse with my 4 sons. Had my LG 3 years now and that's really good too and they have 5 year warranties as well which thankfully not had to use yet
Indesit is the best all ways got 5+ years out of there washing machiness the one we on now is 7 years old and still going like new do a lot of washing each day
What exactly is the problem with your machine as most of the time they can be easily fixed.
I think hotpoint , Samsung and lg because I think they are well known and many videos online show how to fix them if any problems
It is always a question of cost versus reliability . I have a Hotpoint Aqualtis 11kg 8 or 9 years old , never missed a beat . I must be lucky as they are poorly rated by Which for reliability ,
According to "Which" , just looked it up for you - AEG , MIele and some Bosch machines are the most reliable and "Best buys" but can be up to £1200 . The other thing you have to take into account these days is the "ECO" factor - not necessarily for tree hugging reasons , but for cost per wash .
If £1000 is excessive you may like to consider the Samsung 12kg WW12T504DAW for £679 from Currys or AO which rates well with Which . Or perhaps even consider a Hotpoint , Beko or such at half the price which though less reliable may well do the job for the warranty period ,then simply replace if it dies ?
Take note that some machines offer a 3 or 5 year parts warranty (not Labour) so will still cost a fortune to get fixed . Unlike a previous poster stated washing machines are not easily fixable these days (apart from hoses and seals) and the cost of a call out can be half the price of a new machine , before it's even looked at !
Buy a top end machine (which can be repaired and will have a 5 year + warranty ) , or spend £300 on a lower end machine and be prepared to replace it after 2 or 3 years when it starts misbehaving . Don't even consider purchasing an "extended warranty " , will cost you more than the price of a new machine over 2 years .
You never know you might get one like mine 11kg , I think I paid well under £250 for it 8 years ago and still going strong . So if it goes Kerplunk tomorrow I've had my moneys worth .
Golfforall thank you so much for looking on which/best buys. I really appreciate your help.
My washing machine repair man says machines only built to last about 3 years now
My best machine was a Candy that lasted over 10 years but since then had replacement Candy (owned by Hoover) no problems until the concrete holding the drum in place broke only lasted 3 years so they certainly don’t make them what they used to be and I’m a one person household and I’m now on an Indesit all working well but annoying there’s not a 45 mins 40’c wash as was advertised that it did
Be careful with Miele washing machines they are probably the most reliable but they are hugely expensive and repair costs are horrific and they are only a little bit more reliable than the next brand and I seem to remember LG beat them for reliability one year.
Which reliability survey is a bit pointless though as it doesn't factor in number of loads or didn't use to. Some large families with lots of kids tend to use their washing machines a lot and may give simpler cheaper washing machines a unfair reliability rating.
I have a Panasonic washing machine which is really a Vestel from Turkey. It had a five year parts and labour warranty and cost me about £230 and I've had it 8 years without faults but I only do about 1 load a week if that. It would be moronic to compare it to someone who does perhaps 10 loads a fortnight and then compare reliability directly as it would be completely unfair but that is what Which does (or used to).

Always wise to look at repair costs before you purchase as washing machines are mechanical devices and will fail at some point. Look for good reliability and reasonable repair costs and I think LG scores well on both.
BonzoBanana I’ve a Miele, it’s 11/12 yrs, cost £800 & had a 10 yr warrantee. The build & weight is like a 80s model . My first auto was a hot point lasted 8 yrs , but that was in 80s , they don’t build them like they used to . I had a Siemens Dishwasher lasted 8 yrs the next a HP lasted a 18 mths
vixe80 - I have purchased all my washing machines from Curry plus warranty. Hoover (lasted 8 years), Zannu???,(lasted 9 years) and now Samsung (5 years ago and it is slowly giving way). Ask the sales staff at Curry for advice.
jam45 I personally would recommend not asking Currys for advice as they are trying to sell you a washing machine so it will be biased in favour of what they sell and not helpful. You need to source less biased information. There is Which and consumer reports. You can google reliability and look at review sites. A washing machine with a long guarantee including labour costs is a good start.
I bought one a few years back from Curry's own brand It lasted 15months and Currys was an absolute nightmare dealing with
We have the Samsung eco bubble and we are happy with it, i especially love the fact we can add anything forgotten during the wash.
eyeballkerry that is a feature my current Indesit one has, and it has many a time come in handy!
I currently have a Samsung Eco Bubble, had it a few years now and am pleased with it, I like to have a good sized drum to be able to wash the duvets,
I think this is a US article, obviously advertising repairs
But what is said makes sense
Maybe a good second hand machine is a cheaper option , who knows

Also this UK article explains why new machines don't last long, they recommend Bosch

telmel I seem to remember reading the entry level Bosch washing machines are made in a more basic factory and actually quite poor and difficult to repair. I think you have to go further up the range to get the higher quality washing machines and like many german brands repairs can be expensive.
If I was buying today I'd look at LG I think.
I always take out insurance on white goods like washing machine but just seeing what is a good make that will last seen the Samsung has 20yr warranty on drum or something with certain models.
I paid extra for an LG and it’s still going strong after 10 years. Well worth the extra price and takes quilts and steams too!
My faithful Siemens eventually died this year after 30 YEARS of service .It did cost me £400 back then which was only about a hundred or so pounds more expensive than mid range models .
Replaced it with a Samsung not as well built but a much more efficient machine .
Wow, 30 years. That is fantastic. Things just aren't built to last that long nowadays are they.
Had 2 hotpoint machines. First one lasted about 15 years. In that time I went from being single with very little washing to 3 kids. Replaced that with another Hotpoint, it's on 3-4 times a week and have it 14 years. And yes at times havecbeen guilty of overloading. No issues at all. All i would recommend is not to get a washer dryer.
I install Beko machines in my rental flats and despite tenants best efforts get little trouble from them. About £180 less than a £1 per week if you get 4 years out of them.
I’ve always brought meile they last 20 year plus I’m only on my 2nd and we’ve been married 43 yrs we only buy the W1 & T1 w for washing machine & T for tumble
I've been researching washing machines and if money is no objective Meile are the best value and last for around 20 years
coollady2611 They definitely aren't as good as they used to be and when they do need repairs they can be very slow to repair and extremely expensive if out of warranty because Miele control repairs very tightly and don't allow third party repairers to buy spares. There just aren't enough repairers either so it can be slow. I personally think they are very poor value nowadays. From what I've seen LG wash better, are equally reliable and allow third party repairers to buy spares or used to. So a much better option. Beko can be a good option for a cheaper washing machine which are pretty decent and with spares widely available.
I've always have either a candy,Indesit or recently a zanucci, all have been good with hardly any issues and when I did, got a local repair guy to have a quick look.
I have all BEKO appliances very reliable I took out insurance on my tumble drier 7 years ago am loathe to stop now cos that's when it will probably die on me
