School Principal Fired for Showing Michelangelos David in Class

In the News

Another story here about a ridiculous snowflake decision this time made against a school teacher in the US

The principal was forced to resign because three parents complained about her teaching Renaissance art in a lesson

The reason was because she talked about and showed the statue of Michelangelo’s David in one lesson

These children were 11 and 12 years of age, they have probably seen worse nudity online and in video games

There is no age restriction as far as i know to see this work of art in the museum Accademia Gallery of Florence, in fact there is a tour specifically for children

This just shows how ridiculously out of touch with world history Americans can be

But if it was a drag show it'd probably be fine...

My blood pressure has just gone sky high again, so sick of this brave new world where even our thoughts and history are being controlled.

I feel the same L, i read this nonsense nearly every day, how a teacher can lose her job just by doing teaching art and history ,what she is paid to do is beyond me

But it is ok to teach about all the different gender identities that now exist, including male, female, transgender, gender neutral, non-binary, agender, pangender, genderqueer, two-spirit, third gender, etc etc

As a parent i would feel more uncomfortable with this than my child being shown one of the most fantastic works of art that exists in the world

It's not *********** it's art and considering we're talking about the US shouldn't they focus on protecting kids from guns! Humans are born nude. As for baning sexual education that's ridiculous it should be taught correctly at an appropriate age, partly to allow children to protect themselves and understand their right to say NO.

Midnightflower I wouldn't say ban sex education M , it is necessary but if you make a comparison against teaching history and art and teaching the latest diverse gender identities which must involve much more graphic insight to understand it than viewing a classic work of art , the statue is so innocent

And the fact a dedicated teacher lost her job over this is mindblowing

It wouldn't happen here as i am sure the teacher would go to an industrial tribunal

But i am not sure how it works over there

They seem very tolerant where guns are concerned as you say , but not a classic nude statue

Maybe they should concentrate on watching their children more instead of letting 6 year olds take a gun to school and shoot their teacher, as happened recently

telmel I didn't mean I would ban sex education I was referring to the article which stated 'Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, moved to expand a law that banned public schools from teaching sexual education and gender identity'. I'm completely pro-sex education, it gives young people the knowledge they need. However, guns should be banned they lead to nothing but trouble.

janphoenix51 They will never learn J , this will never stop until someone changes their archaic amendment about bearing arms , what parent in the US can say they feel safe sending their kids to school with this happening, but woe betide if you teach history , this is forbidden 🙄

Didn't these people watch The Simpsons episode, Itchy & Scratchy & Marge (Season 2, Episode 9)?

This matter has already been dealt with and resolved.

ACR I never saw that episode A, what a coincidence

Maybe this is what influenced the three parents to complain, they must have thought the Simpsons is real
