Seen Online, Mirror Site, is It Fake News?

In the News

Just saw this whilst reading the news online, I hope it is just one of those scare mongering stories which will come to nothing. I don't think any of us could bear another round of masks, jabs and lockdowns.

'New Covid variant 'Arcturus' emerges with compulsory masks returning after surge.

The troubling 'Arcturus' Covid variant is more formally known as the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 with most cases coming from India which has seen a recent surge in infections'

It probably is fake or the mirror blowing it out of proportion. If it's as bad and lockdown happens I can't see the UK agreeing to a lockdown. The government may try and impose it but given party gate etc I doubt residents will agree to it and I don't know how they could enforce it

Jerseydrew I agree with you. I think many people are now thinking that the knee jerk reaction we experienced at the beginning of covid was not the way to go.

I think the way the world reacted was right. But from the UKs point of view with the tories still in power and the lies that have come out since no one will listern in the UK. I also don't trust the mirror as the more traffic via the website and sales means more money in terms of actual sales and online ad's.

I’d be inclined to take anything that’s in the mirror with a grain of salt, I’d worry if it was the daily mail 😂

joceeree again, I agree. In fact I have no faith in newspapers at all. You only have to see the headlines about Harry and the coronation to see the potential for causing trouble and upset.

The problem with masks for me was hearing people. I have enough problems normally but masks make it harder

I'd say it's true new variants of covid are happening all the time that's what it does. It's going to be as it's going to be I guess. We won't go back in to lockdowns if that's what your worried about as the government will fidle the figures like there always have done and people who die will have a different reason for there death on there death certificate. It doesn't make that much difference to me has I'm still avoiding people, wearing a mask, washing and sanitizer my hands. That's really all you can do just try to keep yourself and love ones safe.

I honestly don't care, I'm so sick of hearing about covid, and all the regulations it ushered in. The media and government scaremongering has done a number on my poor old mum. She literally will not leave the house any more after two years of hyperbolic nonsense. The people (especially on social media) were equally as bad as the media. Ostracising people who didn't want a "vaccine", or refused to wear a mask. People collectively lost their minds for two years, with many asking for custodial sentences for anyone refusing to go along with the latest draconian measures.

Hindsight is 20/20, but the UK was an absolute shambles in terms of handling the pandemic, more-so than most other countries. Now we know that masks actually did nothing to reduce spread, "vaccines" didn't do much, and lockdowns were ineffective. The formerly rabid masses advocating for mandatory "vaccines" are now silent.

We basically crippled our economy, disrupted global supply chains and ushered in unprecedented levels of inflation, leading to a cost of living crisis for the next decade - for absolutely nothing. I understand there are other factors, like Brexit and Ukraine, but everything we did in response to covid has made things immeasurably worse.

If they try imposing restrictions again, I hope everyone brazenly and publicly flaunts them.

FearLoathing I have to say I agree with you, though maybe not quite so harshly. I have become quite fatalistic recently and if there were another surge with government telling us what to do I think I will be a disobedient one and take the view 'what will be, will be'.

Sorry to come across harshly, was not my intention. I don't think I was ever as harsh as the social media mafia insisting that people who didn't want a vaccine should go to prison or even die. All the way through the pandemic I actively encouraged people to make up their own minds and let others do the same.

'What will be, will be' is certainly also my mantra in regards to covid after getting the vaccine myself and getting infected twice anyway. I think we just need to learn to live with it now, and go on as normal.

FearLoathing yes, again I agree. I have had all the jabs but still got it, although luckily I did not need medical attention despite feeling rough. I think I may have felt worse had I not been jabbed.

I am taking this virus threat seriously and it will be back to wearing a face mask for months. I have had two vaccine and I might go for a third one.

jam45 Not sarcasm? People who are vaxxed up are by their 5th or 6th shot by now. Maybe 7th.. I lost the count.

PhilipMarc I have only been invited for 3. No other requests and I am elderly and have a couple of things that would suggest I needed regular boosters. However, I am not having more if invited. In a relatively short time I had 3 jabs (including pneumonia) in my right arm and have since experienced pain and impeded movement around that area. Could be coincidence.

It's not "fake" news per say, but it sure ain't getting a lot of views either. lol

People aren't falling for it, thankfully. I'm not wearing a dumb muzzle again and last time it just made my glasses foggy while driving and hard to breath with it.

PhilipMarc I hated wearing them and didn't feel I was breathing in enough oxygen to be comfortable. As you say wearing glasses ( in my case sunglasses as I have light sensitive eyes) became almost impossible.

Why were you wearing a mask while driving?

I could be wrong but I don't think these later covid variants even if more aggressive are such a big issue as our bodies have already adapted to dealing with covid after natural infection of earlier variants and the vaccines. They could be far worse variants but still struggle against our immune systems that now recognise them and deal with them more successfully. Maybe there is a chance of a mutation that our body doesn't recognise as covid but I don't think so that would be something different entirely and probably would get a different name if it infects differently.

The issue will be for those who perhaps never got the original virus and perhaps never had a vaccination. Those people could be hit really hard by a more aggressive version of Covid and could be life threatening but surely that would be a tiny minority of the population.

I certainly have no problem wearing a mask though which really benefits others not myself and will vaccinate again if necessary to improve my health.

BonzoBanana Sounds like very good reasoning. Although I hate mask wearing I will do so when in the transport with children and driver in an enclosed space, but can't wait to whip it off when I get home!

It is unlikely that we will see another lockdown. After all the government boasting about our vaccine effectiveness, a lockdown is like saying that our vaccines aren't effective enough!

I forgot about covid 😅 I'm not sure the government could get everyone to stay in again after they broke all the rules before.
