Have You Seen the Rocky Horror Show?
Other
I had to review the show at my local theatre last night and took my son as my guest.
I had never seen it and only knew it for men in suspenders, a character called Frank N Furter and the Time Warp song.
My first shock on arrival was an elderly man walking around the foyer in panties, basque and stockings!
It was certainly an eye opener but very squirmworthy so I found myself wishing I had invited my best mate instead of my son.
I felt as if everyone else in the theatre had already seen it, probably more than once, but I must admit it wasnt my cup of tea.
Jerseydrew yes, I am not surprised as I definitely get the impression I am in the minority in wondering what it's all about and finding the crudity a bit too much.
Lynibis it's whatever floats your boats. Be a boring world I we all liked the same things
Jerseydrew well I wrote a kind review and did not allow my own bias to get in the way of what was a very professional show. Joe McFadden from Casualty was in it. The guy who played Frank was exceptionally good.
I’ve seen the film but never been to the live show. I gather most people who go to it are repeat viewers and get into the spirit of things with their dress. Not sure I’d dress up myself, but I’d love the spectacle of it all
jms19 I was brought up quite strictly and I do get embarrassed watching stuff that is a bit too raunchy, especially in the company of others. I even feel awkward when watching alone and tend to full forward where possible. After all I wouldn't watch in real life so why on my screen lol
Having said that I appreciate that times have changed but I did not know what to expect live on stage so was taken aback. I had no problem with the dressing up, it was a great atmosphere but I did find the yelling out spoiled things a little as I missed what was being said on stage.
I've not seen it on the stage yet, all of the audience participation puts me off a little. I would prefer not sitting next to people reciting all of the dialogue and/or singing all of the songs. But, I do like the film version.
I’ve seen it a couple of times, the first time I was about 15 and went with my friend. Her parents were a lot more liberal and were totally encouraging for us to dress up in fish nets and corsets. My Dad would have freaked out if he knew!
Only saw it on the TV, it was the 2015 Rocky Horror Show live from the West End ( still on You Tube) , not really my sort of thing but thought it was pretty good to be fair . Mind you this version had some well know stars such as Stephen Fry, Ade Edmondson & Emma Bunton amongst others.
I saw Ade Edmondson in London in this in the 1990s. Seems to be still performing as Brad through the years! With Gina Bellman as Janet then. Watched with a German friend who was obsessed with the music and had seen a Broadway touring version back home. A 3D film seemingly was shown beforehand which we missed, which would have been fun
I first saw it in a theatre over 40 years ago and loved it. I really enjoy the film too and have a dvd to see whenever I want to. (Mr T hates it!)
Seen the film many times, dressed appropriately for the show. A colleague who watched it for the 1st time swears I look exactly like Magenta, which humbles me. It's really rather tame, especially when I think about watching the Benny Hill Show when very young, and that was considered family entertainment. Part of its message is that if you have been brought up in a repressed way, you should free yourelf from your inhibitions, at least a little, and realise that sexuality is part of human nature. There is nothing wrong with anything that features in the show. Bringing people up to think that sex is dirty and only for procreation is what causes terrible psychological damage. Many rapists and murderers had parents who imposed that viewpoint.
