What Strategies Can I Use to Help My Son Focus During Lessons?
Ask a Question
It was my son's parent evening at school yesterday. I mentioned that he can never sit still. Teacher said theres a lot in class the same because they learn to sit still for lessons eating ect in recetion and year 1. He was homeschooled then because of covid. Any idvice short of moaning or shouting to get him to sit still when approipate.
My son is in nursery just now and he used to be the same. Would never sit at the table for dinner. What worked for us was consistency. Nursery did it with him too, reminded him when he needed to sit at the table. Now he just does it. I never shouted or moaned at him, just reminders and lots of praise when he did it.
Imnotcheap children his age are struggling because of covid, they missed out on vital stuff at a vital age because of it. I know he is 8, but what about some form of reward chart? I've taught plenty of teenagers who don't know how to sit still.
I dont have any advice but your certainly not alone my sons 8 also and can't sit still, other than covid he's been in nursery/school since he was 3. We walk to school, he plays football most days and does clubs and he still never stops fidgeting!
I'd never realised how important reception getting children to sit on carpet and similar was.
Imnotcheap I think they missed out on alot due to covid. I'm hoping my son grows out of it as he gets older.
You've said yourself we've had covid. Sod the homeschooling bit. Year 3 to preschoolers are struggling because of covid. Year 3 and below either don't know pre rona or have virtually no memory of what life was like let alone being able to cope with things like sitting still. I struggle with it and I'm an adult
Thanks for comment. I am relieved that the problem is common among his age because of covid
