How Much to Spend on Child's Birthday Gift?

Ask a Question

How much do you spend on a child's birthday gift?

We just got an invite from a school child and aren't sure what the norm is to spend? Does it depend on how close your child is to them? Should £10 be enough you think?

It depends what you can afford to spend. I would spend between £5 and £10 as that is more than enough.

£5-£10 is the normal with most parents I know, depending on what you can afford.

I always go with around £5 for school friends presents unless it's a best friend then up to £10. If you don't know the child it's hard to get something they genuinely want too.

£10 or cheaper if I can find a decent present for a lower amount, really depends on if I know the kid if not

£10 is more than enough for a random school child. I’ll only up it to those closer to me

I think £5 is enough. Ultimately, it should depend more on what you can actually afford 😊

Around £5. Luckily the parties we’ve had invites for have been quite far in advance so I bulk bought gifts when I found good offers.

I bulk buy cheap cards online and use brown paper to wrap which I decorate myself to save more money.
