How Much Do You Spend on Groceries?
Ask a Question
Iv tried and failed to get my costs down, I'm about 150 a week including shampoo, conditioner and cleaning essentials
I could easily do 50 per week as a singleton so suspect there are at least 4/5 of you. That still sounds like a lot to me but then I haven't grocery shopped for a family in a very long time so it may be average.
I have always been a budget conscious person and even my sons do not understand how I managed raising them as a single mum. A large chicken would do roast on sunday, curry or pie on Monday and stew on Tuesday lol.
We are a family of 5, my husband won't eat a meal without meat! I recently discovered a slow cooker and it's reduced our spend as I can now get the cheap cuts of meat. My eldest is pescartarian so I often have to cook different meals for everyone!! I try and eat fresh fruit and veg as much as I can so think that does put the cost up.
My average bill which includes a few cans of beer (£2,15), fruit, and sugar free sweets is about £20 a week, I eat fairly well, rarely eat out and never buy take aways. I was discussing this with somebody the other day and we reckoned we could (should we wished) eat quite well for less than a pound a day.
I reckon that too many people waste food or buy too much ready prepared food.
There are 3 of us and with the baby's stuff it is about £75 a week. If we are buying cleaning products or toiletries then it is slightly more.
I live by myself so..
I used to spend £20 per week since I have moved to another flat
the area I live in now is alittle more expensive so I end up spending £25-£30 per week.
When I used to live with my family there was 3of us, so each of us paid £20 aweek for groceries and domestic's and when anything left from this £60
it was saved to be used for anything like house items we needed like if the rice cooker broke, or hoover or fridge,
or even much more smaller items.
that money went to things like that,
so I would say with my family we actually spent £50 per week somethings per weeks £60
on a 1off even about £45 because of what was left each week,
and we lived in a cheap area, that time
so a lot of small markets as well as cheap supermarkets
Some weeks are more than others. I tend to buy large packets of food which can do a few meals and a big pot of stew/bolognese/curry the leftovers get frozen for another meal.
Think I need to review again everyone seems to be doing really well, that figure dies include everything including toilet roll , shampoo, conditioner, body oil ect but I'd like to get it down
maybe shop at aldi they do great shampoo and conditioner etc for about 60p and have a good range of meat and fish. go late in the evening to supermarkets and markets and you will get great deals on veg and fruit and don't buy the big brands. saves a fortune
