This Squirrel Has Had Its' Last Nuts and Was Cooked on TV

In the News

'This Morning' on ITV decided to feature cooked squirrel on its' programme on Thursday and some people were horrified

Phil, who never turns down a free meal on air was 'wolfing' down the squirrel , while Holly refused to eat it

People were saying it was too cute to eat

So what about chickens , lambs and cows, it seems to be ok to cook and eat their meat

Would you partake in a squirrel risotto, after all they can be cute, sometimes !

I kinda like squirrels so would find it hard to munch on one.I don't suppose there's much meat on em either. They're supposed to taste like chicken or rabbit but they carry lots of diseases.I knew a gypsy who ate hedgehogs!

I wouldn't eat it personally but it was quite common to eat in the UK before ww2 and still is in other countries I believe.

Midnightflower What does eating squirrel taste like?

Squirrel tastes like a subtler version of rabbit, with some saying the flavour resembles a cross between rabbit and chicken – with a hint of nuts. The meat is sweet, light in colour and finely textured.May 24, 2017

Disgusting. There is a nuisance squirrel in my garden who looks like a medium sized rat.

Sometime ago I went for a walk and past a tree and there was a squirrel in it looking down at me and it started throwing small items at me. Twigs and berries etc. I thought it was quite funny.

There are a few people about that eat roadkill which could be badgers and various birds. It's not for me that's for sure. I feel guilty about eating the meat I currently eat and don't want to extend it to more animals. Eating animals is pretty disgusting when you think about it but I'm a creature of habit and do really enjoy a beef roast.

I don't know why B, but something flattened and squashed by a car tyre doesn't really appeal to me as a meal , but i suppose if someone is hungry enough it wouldn't matter

telmel Some are flattened but some are hit and thrown out of the car's path. I seem to remember watching someone I think on the James Whale show many years ago who made a few roadkill meals and they were pretty decent. Badger curry etc.

BonzoBanana I suppose if it is fresh road kill then it could be ok to eat, but if it has festered a few days it could contain parasites that would not be good to consume

telmel I think it depends on the meat, chicken is porous so has to be cooked thoroughly but beef isn't porous so can be eaten safely undercooked as the bacteria can't get into the meat. I have no idea how roadkill meats vary but for those who eat them they probably know which meat they can eat depending on condition and how well it has to be cooked.
