Strangest/most Unusual Competition Prize You've Seen or Won?
Other
I have just seen a new competition offering a prize of a trip to Istanbul for a hair transplant consultation. I won't be entering as my hair is thick and voluminous!
What's the most unusual prize you've won or heard of?
What was the link Lynn?
I'm joking, I'm happy with my shaven look.
I think the strangest wins I get tend to be when you miss the main prize, but get 1 of 10 consolations or some such.
I once went in to win an iPad, but instead got the offer of a tour of a newly opened retirement home.
I politely declined.
blacklabrador lol that is funny, imagine if a 20 year old won that. The one I mentioned is a new one in a couple of the magazine comps (just in case you change your mind)
Lynibis I noticed that one. I was tempted to enter as I am becoming a bit 'follically challenged'! Here's a recent one that I found strange. Forget chocolates or flowers for Mother's Day. How about a breathalyzer for Mum?
seasider71 ha ha yes, I did enter that the first time I saw it but as I don't drink it was pointless and may cause offence if given as a gift lol.
ginnyadams invite your friends round for afternoon tea, lol, I think I would prefer that to the gin. If you put it away and it is China made by a good manufacturer, it may be worth something in the future.
I entered a competition aimed at older people, there were lots of prizes, I would have loved one of the iPads, laptops or phones and I did get an email advising me I was a winner, my prize, a made to measure stairlift with a 3 year servicing contract. Even my parents and in-laws weren’t at the stage of needing a stairlift so I had to decline the prize. I always thought of someone sitting there hoping to win a stairlift to make things easier and winning an iPad that they didn’t want.
Years ago, I was one of 10 people who won a local newspaper competition of a hamper containing many mouthwatering treats. I went to collect my hamper and was given a carrier bag of free samples. (not for resale) I dump it on the bus home.
My husband entered a competition and won a hamper. The exciting thing was he could choose from a big list of lovely products. He asked them if he could delay it for 2 months as we were going on a self catering holiday in the U.K. They were happy to do so and we had lots of holiday treats.
I won a huge selection of herbal tea once, which I don't drink so I have no idea why I entered but my sister enjoyed them so they didn't go to waste.
Midnightflower not my cup of tea either! But I do enter comps if I think a loved one would like the prize even if I don't.
I've seen some weird ones but can't remember them now, I'm sure they will pop in my head just as I'm trying to go to sleep or just as I nod off
I just came across the competition you mentioned. At first I thought it was just a consultation and thought is the actual procedure or flights even included, but this is the full description: 'a round-trip flight from London to Istanbul, accommodation in Istanbul, and a free consultation for hair transplants at their clinic. This is your chance to experience the exceptional care and expertise of the team firsthand.' Still not sure if the full procedure is included in it all or if you have to commit to have the full procedure so would it actually end up costing you more?
Maybe the winner can let us know what they receive
Doesn't close until the end of April though.
I won a Macadamia Nut tree in Kenya (Woopy Do) Probably will never see it or sample its nuts, but my carbon foot print is -300Kg which the tree will absorb through its life time.
My prize from Ben & Jerrys ice cream arrived a couple of hours ago. It’s a phishing spoon, don’t know what to use it for.
I entered a raffle whilst at a match at Edgbaston Tennis club for Bham children's hospital. I won something like 28 cinema tickets that expired in 1 week by the time I received them. I complained, they had them back and they said they would sort something out. I never heard back from them. Any charity or fundraiser related to them I have avoided ever since.
Lynibis I reckon they used them themselves. It has certainly left a bad taste. I ate in Mowgli in New St Station who add an amount to the bill for charities it was Bham children's hospital and I had it taken off.
Ilovethebeach can't say I blame you. If people are going to run a comp they should at least do it properly.
I once won 5 ready to roast chickens in a tombola. Needless to say we didn't eat them but the cats lived well for many weeks.
