How Can I Watch Your Videos with Subtitles?
Feedback
Hi! I was wondering if there is any chance of having subtitles added to the videos both on here and on LD FB page please? I use Sign Language and am also fortunate in that I can lip-read quite well (and Tom, you are easy to lip read! ) but not all members of the Deaf community / people who are hard of hearing are able to do so and I am often asked to translate videos online into Sign Language. If a video cuts away to a photo or a video in which you can't see the person talking then Deaf people have no clue what's happening so subtitles would be fantastic please - it's not something which is ever 'expected' but it's always appreciated!
Hey GirlieWhirlie, thank you for your feedback. All our videos on Facebook are published with subtitles with this in mind. Here's an example:
When watching the video on desktop, here's how to turn them on:
1. Press the video so it opens it its own page (not in news feed)
2. Press the cog / settings icon
3. Press the 'captions' check box
When watching the video on the Facebook App (mobile)
1. Press the video so it expands to the full screen (not in news feed)
2. Press the three dots
3. Press "Turn On Closed Captions"
When watching the video on Latest Deals (via YouTube)
Unfortunately, YouTube does not provide an easy way for us to create subtitles. However, it does auto-generate subtitles.
Here's an example. Press the "CC" icon to create subtitles:
You'll see the accuracy of the auto-generated subtitles are not perfect, however it should help.
Note - We ensure every video published on Latest Deals is also published on Facebook with manual subtitles.
I'm sorry we're unable at the moment to put perfect captions on our YouTube videos, and will of course research into easy ways we can do this.
I hope this helps,
Tom
