FAQs
- What about Lidl, Co-Op, Savers, Poundland etc.?
We don't track these places at present. We may do in future.
- What products do you track?
We don't want to say exactly what products for a variety of reasons, but it is a common basket of goods that form the 20 most bought products. We find the cheapest available option for the same size.
- Iceland seems wrong, it's not that expensive
Iceland is a unique supermarket because it doesn't sell much of it's own brand goods. Basic items, such as those we tend to collect data on, tend to be more expensive at Iceland. Iceland does sell other items, such as large packs of frozen meat, at cheaper prices than other supermarkets - however we don't necessarily track all those product prices for the purposes of this.

Wow looks like Waitrose are leading with price reductions and before anyone says it I know it’s not usually cheaper. I’ve noticed a difference in store.
I'm surprised Iceland is more expensive than Waitrose. We're currently trying to buy from a variety of supermarkets to help keep costs down.
Midnightflower Hey Iceland is a bit of an odd one in our research - we only track the 20 most commonly bought products, which tends to be basic household items. For the majority of these, Iceland only sells branded goods and doesn't have it's own home-brand options, unlike the other supermarkets, and so, on our graph it ends up looking more expensive.
There are definitely things it's cheaper for though, such as big packs of frozen fish.
Iceland is expensive. Where I am we've got a waitrose and Iceland and waitrose is much better value than waitrose. Unless it's reduced stuff then Iceland is better
