Surprise Mobile Mid-Contract Price Rises Banned

Mobile phone, pay TV, and broadband companies have been banned from surprise price rises during a contract.

In new deals from 17 January, providers must tell customers about any mid-contract price rises at the point of sale and "in pounds and pence".

This must be done in a "clear and comprehensible" way, Ofcom has ordered.

Well I believe that if you have a contract it shouldn't go up till it's ended my dad has Vodafone broadband and it's gone up 3 times he only had it for a year I think I've told him if it goes up again I'm looking for another provider for him

I also don't think it should go up in the period of the contract. If you buy a 18month contract for Broadband and you are given the price that should be the price and the company should provide a price they are happy to accept throughout that whole contract. I also don't think if a company is sold to another provider they can just continue with those contracts. My mother was moved from Shell Broadband to Talktalk and her internet became problematic about a month before they did that and it was not resolved with Shell and contacting Talktalk has not helped either, in fact they have been worse than useless yet still expect to get the monthly payments. It seems like they are not setup to deal with the routers that Shell used so why was the contract continued under a new company? The contract should have ended there and then. As it is she has to wait until September before she can move supplier, so 2 months of a very poor service with frequent drops in her internet connection. Then there is the issue that my previous experience of using Talktalk was terrible so not a company myself or my mother would use at our homes but she was forced to become a talktalk customer.

It feels like the mobile/broadband ombudsman is next to useless and not in favour of consumers at all but more in the pocket of these communication provider companies.

Doesn't go far enough, as far as I'm aware they have always told people and included it in the t&Cs , but the majority of us just don't take any notice of all that red tape bit anyway . Prices rises for the duration of a contract should be banned altogether.
