What Are the Effects of Tenby's Rat Infestation on Local Tourism?
Ask a Question
I am originally from South Wales and have many find memories of going to Tenby, it is a very beautiful part of the world, so I was shocked when I read this headline "Residents ‘living in terror’ after town is invaded by rats 'as big as cats'
metro.co.uk/2023/03/18/locals-living-in-terror-after-town-invaded-by-rats-as-big-as-cats-18466028/
I thought the photo seemed familiar, but I was shocked that it was about Tenby
It has definitely changed my opinion about visiting, and I don't know how much this article will adversely effect the tourist industry.
I assume that this would deter anyone visiting.
Do you have any places you used to enjoy going to, but wont visit now for whatever reason ?
Bossclaz Same here, it's a beautiful place and I wasn't aware of the rat issue as I have never seen any. But to read that their burrows were eroding the cliff was very worrying.
I've not been Tenby in a good while well years but when last did I didn't notice any rats etc.
It probably will have a knock on effect this article and the issues Tenby have with rats.
But then you get rats most places and never far from a rat just cause we don't see them don't mean they ain't there.
Daffodil90 I know that was true of urban areas, but was surprised as it's the cliffs, one of the reasons given was people feeding the birds providing a plentiful food source.
Maybe the council should employ some sharp shooters as the rats become immune to the poison.
Never been and I don’t think it’ll put me off - have seen rats as big as cats in some parts of London, although it’s been a while as the foxes must be getting to them
hspexy Its a really beautiful place, which if you are not off put by this story. I would highly recommend, lovely sandy beaches. It won UK’s best beach 2019 award winner.
Love Tenby, I used to travel up to Chorley from Sheffield & stay at my friend's house when were in our early 20's then she would drive us to Saundersfoot nr Tenby where we would stay in a caravan..
This was always around the first
week in Oct & it was always so warm that we wore leggings & t.shirts
We did this trip every year for years & loved it, we used to go to a Spa in Kidwelly til it was closed down.We spent hours walking on Saundersfoot Beach, eating out, visiting pubs, going to Tenby & buying Cauldy Island gifts...
We were in Tenby on Oct 7th 1994 when my twin Nephews were born to my sister & brother in law back home in Sheffield..x
This makes me soo sad as it will hit tourism, I detest Mice & Rats, terrified of them...
