Where my team ply their trade (League 1) there is a £2.5 million spending cap for the whole team.

So the whole squad can't earn more in a year than Cristiano Ronaldo takes home for just over 6 weeks work.

Hopefully your team can stay within that structure and not go out of business like so many league 1 and 2 is a really dangerous standard over paying just one or two players can destroy the whole club.

Mick82 Luckily we have a very rich owner, but the sooner we get promoted the better.

I believe they’ve been overpaid for years and that they charge too much for season tickets. I could be standing on my soap box for hours on this subject so you’ve got away lightly with a couple of sentences.

Footballers get paid ridiculous amounts of money. I have heard they get paid more than surgeons who save peoples lives

I do believe wages should be capped in the public sector because such wages are paid through forced taxation so should be fair and realistic compared to the private sector but I must admit I don't believe we should intervene with private sector wages. Ultimately they are companies and if they pay too much they go out of business. It is for end consumers to decide if ticket prices are acceptable. If they keep paying excessive amounts for tickets and sports kits then obviously there is a lot of money available for wages. Ultimately if fans allow themselves to be exploited that is their choice. If I put a margin on something that instead of 10% is 100% but people still pay it then so be it, that is capitalism.

These are not business they are community clubs that have been turned into business and as a country we need to stop clubs being destroyed by greedy often foreign business people

Mick82 Ultimately that control is with the fans, currently the fans are exploited as much as possible and its only when fans stop paying high ticket prices etc that the clubs will be forced to change their ways it will either force them out of business or they will adapt to lower revenues. If it forces them out of business it may mean the club will get resurrected under new ownership.

I'd like to see more homegrown talent so we have a greater chance of winning the world cup but football is such a huge industry and I can't see it changing much to be honest.

Covid debt added to all the existing debt we built up in the EU means I'm sure living standards will reduce hugely over the next 10 years and so I'm sure there will be knock on effort to football revenue as general income reduces and disposable income drops significantly.

Every year the wages just get bigger and bigger! Not the player fault it’s the big clubs who are willing to keep paying them.

If they can't live on £10000 a week let them look somewhere else if wages were got under control think how much money would be available to filter down to lower league teams and grass roots football

Nobody's wages should be capped if their contribution is vital to provide the service the business makes their money from. If a TV programme brings in 10m viewers and all the advertising revenue to go with it, why shouldn't a vital cog in the machine get paid accordingly? The money has to go somewhere. I have no interest in football but appreciate that without the players, the people won't watch and the team can't make millions from advertising and TV rights. Look at those people as business assets. Without them, the team / business would not exist and many other people wouldn't have a job. I wonder how many people who disagree with those high wages would turn it down themselves if they were offered £15m to do their job? I certainly wouldn't.
