Transvaginal Exam
Other
Okay I'm really anxious and scared about getting a transvaginal ultrasound scan done I remember posting here a while back for when I needed to get a cervical test done and it wasn't so bad to be fair.. but this one looks bloody terrifying. I hate when the nurses be like it won't hurt but judging by the look of the instrument it sure looks like it will I've been trying to find as much info as I can as the appointment letter doesn't say anything.. the temptation to cancel is there but I owe it to my body to see if everything is okay.
Has anyone had this done before .. plz be honest .. how much does it hurt out of 10
MelissaLee1 I know .. being a woman is hard. I think this is tough .. what about childbirth
Nadiaparveen Indeed.I was 8lb 4.big lump and my mum had stitches but she said it wasn't half as bad as she imagined!
I’ve had this done. It was one of the tests they done before giving me a womb ablation. Honestly it’s not as bad as you think. I can’t stand getting smears done because it hurts me so bad. so like you I thought this was going to be horrendous. But all I felt was a bit of pressure. No pain just slightly uncomfortable. If you can tolerate a smear then this should be a walk in the park.
Pain score for me less than 1 out of 10
TracyStorrie ohhh Thankyou so much for responding.. that's great it didn't hurt you
Does the test last long and when they move it around can you feel it
It didn’t take long at all. It took less than 5 minutes. You can feel it but it’s just pressure. There’s nothing sharp on it just a little cold
I haven’t had it before but if you are really anxious the doctor would prescribe you a diazepam to relax your whole body before hand that could really help x
I had 2 before they didn't hurt me at all I think it's mind over matter, having a smear test was more uncomfortable
I've had this done before. The worst part was drinking a lot of fluids and trying to hold it in. Apart from that it didn't hurt. The doctor and the nurses put you at ease and if you feel pain you just let them know. Hope this helps you.
I had one recently. Thought it was a regular ultrasound until I arrived to appointment. Honestly they don't hurt in the slightest & was fairly quick.
I haven't actually had thi done but wishing you the best of luck, keep strong and you can do it.
I’ve had two in the last year and they don’t hurt like the smear test
I had two different sonographer both were women which for me put me at ease which in itself helped
They have plenty of lubricants to help as well as not going to lie it’s a plastic tube going up but it doesn’t open up like the smear tool which I think that’s why that’s always more uncomfortable
As with these things if you are finding it uncomfortable please please tell them
Best wishes I hope the result from having the ultrasound gets you closer to a resolution to whatever you need. I found this part of the process quick and efficient it’s the after that’s been a fight, yet another hospital appointment cancelled again today
I've had this done a few times, it's a little uncomfortable, but I think that's because I was tense and I didn't relax, it's more embarrassing more than anything. It's over really quickly and you will think to yourself why did I get so worked up ?
Also until I read Gromit22 comment I had forgotten how cold the lubricant was
