Do You Use Public Transport?

Ask a Question

Are you happy with the public transport in your area? 🚌

Do you get the Bus, Train or Tram to work or education? Let me know if you think you get enough of a service and if you feel prices are fair.

Yup I use the bus and trains when going to see family the trains are a nightmare never on time or they get cancelled when you stood there waiting for it buses are not to bad where I am apart from one bus that's never on time we get a weekly pass because my other half needs it for work so I use it in the day so it's good for us

Not usually as I drive but when car is in garage and I need to get to work I get the train but only occasionally. Used trains for short break last month but engineering works forced us on a different route via London which I didn’t really want to do. I use local buses with my elderly parents where they live as it’s easier.

Every single working day, and most of the days off too 😂 Driving a car in London is not practical for day-to-day routine.

Basically where I live we have one bus service. Recently they cut the service times and cut down the route luckily still stops in my village. I don’t use it often as I prefer to walk.

Very Happy. Apart from January to March each year as our trains are always out at weekends for maintenance works.

I use the bus almost every day to go to work, shopping and visiting family and friends. Until 2020 in my area the bus fare was value for money paying in either cash or using a travelcard. I have the choice of using five different buses going to various areas from my home and it takes me between 4-10 minutes walking distance to the bus stops.

Yep as someone that has epilepsy and has regular fits I have no choice as I wont be allowed to have a provisional or a licence at the moment due to the seizures. I have a disabled persons bus pass and only get on bus when I need to.

emilyljames123 my cousin is epileptic too and hasn't had seizures in a couple of years and she has a disability pass too. She only uses it if and when needed to.

I don't usually need to use public transport but I used the bus yesterday and must say for £2.00 a trip, well worth it, saved on petrol and parking charges.

HEDGEHOGS Yes depending on where you are going, it saves money getting the bus because you aren't paying for petrol or parking.

I didn’t used to have a car so was always on the bus and train. I enjoyed the journeys cause i could read the paper and listen to my music. The problem is public transport is unreliable and I always had to add at least 30 minutes onto my travel time to account for lateness or the buses not turning up at all.

The public transport where I am is shocking. They only come once and hour and the last one is at 7pm. It doesn't go very far and is often cancelled so you are stood there for a long time waiting for the next one.

I would use a bus if we had any !!!. We live in a little village and get about 6 a week. I do not understand why town's have so many forms of public transport but rural areas 9 times out of 10 don't even have a bus service 🙄

Thankfully, there is excellent public transport in my area! I mainly use the bus, DLR and tube but prices are extortionate - very poor value. I walk as much as I can 😃

I tend to use park and rides and often walk in from the park and ride to the town centre but often take the park and ride bus back if I'm loaded with shopping or just tired at the end of the day. That is the main public transport I use. I haven't been on a train for years as prices are ridiculous and there hasn't been much in the way of promotions in recent years. The £2 bus fare deal that was operating a month or so back I didn't use much. I used it once for a Yeovil to Taunton trip and back so £4 but it wasn't as good as going from Yeovil to Taunton park and ride by car and walking in to the town centre.

I used to commute by bus in the past and it meant I had to get up earlier and get home later so added perhaps 1 and 1/2hrs to every day. Walking directly to work and back was actually the same time, 45 minutes each way so it was no quicker just less tiring. I think I paid £62 for a monthly bus ticket but could also use the ticket for other trips. It felt good value. As perhaps each month I would use the bus for 2 or 3 extra trips to other nearby towns too.

However many routes have now been closed so the ticket represents worse value nowadays.

Not at home. The transport where I am is over priced and rubbish. I learnt to drive after having a child because of the transport. I had a driver tell me I didn't have the right to get a bus because it was a busy route, and to be grateful he was allowing me on it that time and not to get that bus ever again. It wasn't busy and when I said I got it regularly and where I was going I went weekly. Got told I was a liar as it was his regular route and never seen me before. Over a decade later and I refuse to give the bus company my money because of the attitude of the driver. Did me a favor though as I'd never be able to have worked in various youth clubs or schools.

I just travel by foot. Don't go out much because I've got Agoraphobia. Did go on buses before COVID but I've lost alot of my confidence in going out I'm trying to get back to how I was before COVID but really difficult and haven't managed to travel on a bus yet but I'll get there. I'll do it one day.

KAW18 Best of luck in getting out more and improving the situation. Maybe try to make the process a lot more positive i.e reward yourself somehow for going out. Maybe consider a bicycle if you have nearby cycle paths to give yourself more freedom to travel further.

I use the bus to work 5 days a week. The service is hit and miss, especially if it rains. Even when you're early the bus can arrive really late. Though the service is at it's utmost best during school holidays, which is why I love whenever it's half term 😂. The drivers don't really seem like happy people and you will always have passengers causing trouble at some point. I wish my bus pass would last 30/31 days rather than 28 days..as I always run out and it means I have to wait a few extra days for pay day to renew it.

Yes unfortunately as I don't drive. I try to walk as much as possible but sometimes it's unavoidable. Our service has got better after it fell apart after covid but still needs alot of improvement.
