The Weather

Other

Has anybody else noticed that weather forecasters seem very keen these days to tell us what the weather was like ‘yesterday’ or ‘earlier on’ but still find it hard to correctly predict what will actually happen. They cover their backs by just saying that you might get some rain etc. Why do we pay these people. We can look out of the window just as easily as they can.

They either get you with that, TV License or some other nonsense tax.

They do not know what the weather will be. I could stand there and tell, there is a 0% chance to snow and maybe it will be hot and sunny, but the cold wave can hit too....I saw the weather forecast yesterday and I do not know where the thunder storm was, but not here....and when I checked my phone it showed there is 15% chance to rain....there were 0%

We had light rain, very heavy rain, hail and sunshine this morning. Looking outside now despite the heavy rain, if you hadn't seen it, you wouldn't believe it had happened at all. It's all heat and sunshine again now!

for my area there is a 50 % chance of rain - so it might or might not. They aren't really being too specific. I'm not convinced there will be rain at all. I just look out the window and judge it that way.

You are right. I think we should sack the lot of them. If it can't be predicted then why are we paying them to sit in plush offices all day to give us a pretend forecast.

I've not had the heat wave. But we had lots rain and winds. Just a few days of warm weather. When I put tv on its say what yesterday weather was which was the the heat wave. We have to guess what the weather we be for the next day. Weather people are all wrap up with this heat wave. And am getting tied of it.

It has become windy over here in Brum this morning. Going to be around 20-22 Celsius, a lot cooler than of late. Still no rain yet though. x

They have been predicting rain over here for the past couple of weeks now and we had zilch. I don't mind what the weather does, it's just a little annoying at times when the weather forecasts keep changing.

That's just it. They get it wrong more often than not. They forecast rain - you get your expectations up because you know you need rain - you get none! If it can't be accurate, there is no point to it.

2018 probably has the worst hot weather in my opinion, it's so hot that I can't even focus on what I need to do and it just gives me a lazy feel to want to sleep on the couch.

I know this is an old topic but there are many on chat about weather so came here

I have said for some time that the seasons seem to be arriving and ending later each year. As a child I can't remember any Winters when we didn't play in the snow (I suppose there were some) and by the end of March heating was not required.

It does make me wonder about climate change as we all know nothing ever stays the same. We've had an ice age and some say the dark ages were named thus because it was mostly very cold. It is not unusual to have warm septembers, but 30° plus?

Lynibis I agree with you, the seasons when we were younger were very different to the climate today. I also agree that we were in an ice age and are no longer so therefore the climate changes on it's own over time anyway, but, there is no getting away from the fact that the world is so overpopulated that humans must be adding to the increased in the rate of climate change. Once the population is under control (will it ever happen?) and is sustainable for the planet I feel things would improve drastically, but those in 'power' don't really talk about it?!

tumblespots spot on, I can see both sides. I really don't think anyone is brave enough to start talking about population. Look how everyone turned on China for doing it. If the population doubles every 50 or so years no way will humans survive as the earth will not be able to support us. As far as I am concerned population control is the only way to save the planet, not overcharging people to drive in certain areas.

It’s only a forecast, an indication and yes they often get it wrong. I think they are probably all aware of past forecasters getting it completely wrong. Never heard the last of the 1987 Hurricane that Michael Fish reassured everyone it wasn’t coming here. Next day half the populations roofs blew off and hardly any trees standing.

JLouM Yes, we all remember that but it didn't stop him getting an MBE so clearly getting it wrong is well rewarded!

It seems like every year it’s the hottest on record. That means it must be a constant steady increase in heat every year. Each one is hotter than before. Last year for 2 days we hit 40 degrees! But we haven’t experienced that this year! The hottest being about 29 around here this year. ?

Every year when summers approaching we have constant stories (mostly in the papers) about heatwaves coming, then every time winters here we have the constant stories about big freezes. These things don't seem to occur anywhere near as often as they go on about it.

As for weather forecasts, I check them, but i've learnt to always be prepared in the uk!
