Does Anyone Use Weighted Blankets?

Ask a Question

Does anyone buy and use them? What’s so great about using them?

I hear the word weighted and think 🤔 they must be heavy on your body lol 😝😅

Are they thick and keep you warm during the winter 🥶 ❄️ season?

I've considered one but I'm not too sure.

You have to get the correct weight for you, so a lot of individuals can't share, as they require different ones. I believe there are some guides online that suggest the weight of the blanket to the weight of the user.

It is suppose to be a light pressure, almost like a hug, it is suppose to help people feel more secure when they sleep and reduce anxiety. But there are also many health concerns, so if you have any underlying illnesses like sleep apnea or asthma, it is recommended that you do not use them.

It is suppose to be relaxing like babies are when swaddled (not to be used with babies, but same sort of affect apparently)

I read so many positive things regarding weighted blankets so bought one last year and used it for about 4 months but it wasn't for me, I got used to the weight on me but struggled when I wanted to turn over as it was a bit too heavy.

No never bought one. I have a super extra thick tog duvet that I pull up when sleeping when really cold and that keeps us warm.

JLouM yeah my duvet is thinned out so have been using a big throw too under duvet and I wear layers during the day and night with socks 🧦 during winter ❄️ season!

We've had one for a few years and love it. I think that ours is 9kg which is quite heavy, but you can get lighter ones. They make you feel nice and toasty when using a duvet too.

TheChimp 9kg still sounds kinda heavy lol

Just thought about this and wanted to ask what it’s like using rhem

kitty88uk I'm a bit extreme when it comes to bedding and have a 13 tog duvet, a 9kg weighted blanket and a throw on the bed all year round. I just sleep outside the covers if I get too hot.

I love my weighted blanket because I find them really comfortable. It's hard to explain exactly what they are like. But they're not for everyone. Some people feel 'confined' by them, so they are not for everyone.

TheChimp Gasp! I didn't know they can be that heavy! I'm not sure 9kg is something the weakling in me can lift well, though the weight is spread out, I think I'd be buried. Isn't it hard to wash and dry? What's inside that makes it so heavy?

hky It is a bit difficult to clean as it's so heavy especially when wet. Mine is handwash only in cold water. The main problem is where to hang it to dry, because a normal washing line won't take it.

There's glass beads in all the panels, so that's where the weight comes from.

TheChimp yeah I thought it would be like that for others too heavy like they can’t breathe 🧘🏻‍♀️

Sleeping 😴 is a way to be able to relax the mind and body

Having. Weighted blanket may not be a good idea

TheChimp I still can’t believe that it’s glass beads inside! Was shocked 😯 to learn this from reading comments haha 😅

I have never fancied having a weighted blanket. I don't like heavy covers over me but a light and airy quilt that I can snuggle in to.

Lynibis A weighted blanket is definitely not for you then. It's quite an effort lifting up the weighted blanket and duvet so that Harvey the woofer can get underneath

Lynibis yeah me too! My duvet is old lol and I also use a big long throw under it and wearing layers during winter and socks 🧦 keeps me warm lol

I get hot 🥵 easily when it’s the next morning so yeah don’t think it’s for me either

Personally I don’t fancy one but my 32 yr old son has one and absolutely loves it. However we have come across a problem…. We don’t know how to wash it. It’s really heavy when it’s dry so Lord knows how heavy it would be when wet. He has thought about washing it in the bath but then there is the problem of hanging it some where to dry !!! So at the moment it gets regular sprays with fabreeze !!!

reannsgran You would have to use the laundry washer and dryer. There is no way it can be hand washed and put on the clothes line. My local launderette charges £10 for the massive sized washer and £2 per 12 minutes for the dryer. I was thinking you could put it into the laundry's dryer with those drying cleaning only sheets I was given a sample of years ago.

reannsgran o would think that washing them in washing machine would be extremely heavy cause of the water it absorbs and can break both washing machine and the dryer!

Do you have one? I was wondering if they come with washing labels like duvets do.

I have a few of them. The biggest physical size weighs 13kg and some smaller weight ones of 7 and 3 I think. The ones I have are thin and for me I don't need an extra duvet but then I and generally a warm person. I personally don't like them that much as I feel a little constrained for my liking but the wife loves it so I cope

ch7leach Wow, 13kg is like having a small human lying on top of you. I thought weighted blankets were just a little heavier than the heaviest duvet. 3kg spread out sounds okay.

Is the thin one you use easy to wash and dry?

hky I have washed but by itself as it's still a fair weight. Made quite a noise in the machine but seemed to be ok. 13kg feels like a firm hug and makes it difficult to wiggle

My children (12 and 9 years) have them to help them settle at night, feel safe/secure and reduce anxiety - my eldest suffers with anxiety and youngest mimics some of his behaviours (and doesn't like to miss out 😉). They have definitely helped them as they both sleep through the night a lot more then they were!

I have one and it’s about the best thing I’ve ever bought. I have back pain issues and used to wake up in agony when I would move around the bed when sleeping. Has not stopped it completely but I wake a lot less that I used too

I do - I had to go to the lowest adult weight for it because I'm small-ish and the weight is only a slight issue in the morning (if I've got it on my bed to sleep) and making the bed. The first I got was too heavy and you need it the right weight both for the comfort factor while it's on you (or draped around you) as well as for practical purposes like lifting it off, changing the cover, etc.

It might take some getting used to but I absolutely love it. Mine is relatively thick and I actually go without a duvet for a good part of the year now as I get on okay with a regular blanket then my weighted blanket, maybe a jumper when it cools before winter, and I prefer it as it's less bulky and less hassle than the duvet. I get the duvet out for winter though, I wouldn't say it's warm enough with a blanket alone in the cold weather, especially if you feel the cold a lot.

As for the weighted aspect.. I used to put my dressing gown and another blanket on my bed because it felt comforting but the weighted blanket is so much better. I live with chronic pain, nerve damage, fibromyalgia, chronic illnesses etc and find it generally just very soothing, supportive even with the pain and I wouldn't be without it now.

It's hard enough getting out of bed in the morning and won't have the strength to lift a weighted blanket. Good idea 💡💡💡 for a sicky though. Sorry I won't be in today I can't get this blanket off me
