When You Start a Diet, How Long Do You Last?
Ask a Question
I am currently on day two and doing okay. But I know it won’t last. I think the worse part is watching other members of my family tucking into something really nice.
Longest I’ve stuck to a diet was about 14 months, it is difficult but i think once you get going and see the results it becomes a little easier. That said I’ve not been able to get anywhere near 14 months again
jms19 Wow, that’s amazing. I think it is getting into a new routine and eating sensible. I have been away for the last two weeks and did not have any chocolate. So if I can it for two weeks then I can do it for four and so on…
About 10 mins I've got to a point now I eat what I want in moderation and walk alot years ago I lost loads of weight playing on the Nintendo Wii
Leannexxx I walk a lot everyday and I used to play on the Wii. I still do the Zumba but need to get into a proper routine.
I don't last Restricting food/drink requires a lot of willpower and you're likely to revert back to old behaviours quickly. I lead a mainly plant-based lifestyle instead with everything in moderation, home cooking, avoid processed/fast food and regular exercise.
Consumer I have cut out processed foods and I walk a lot but feel I need to be different exercises to get rid of certain bits.
Consumer I know the worse thing to do is restricting or not eating something you love. I never eat chocolate in the day, ever, so I should teach my brain I don’t need it in the evening.
I don’t think dieting works. I know what I am eating and how much of it. So mindful eating and cutting down is how I’m doing it. I don’t go without anything. I’ll have may be just less of what the family are eating but still enjoy.
JLouM Yes, one of the main things to do is cut down on portions but I am more of a snacked and already have small meals. So it’s the snacks I need to exchange for healthier options.
eyeballkerry Ah I only snack a little. I think it’s best to ask yourself if you really are hungry and need filling or are you just being fanciful? I’m trying to listen to my body more.
MelissaLee1 This is day three and I’m feeling okay. If I’m busy then usually it’s fine, it’s when I sit down I sometimes feel I need something, the answer, don’t sit down!
I've been on a diet for nearly a year, barely lost any weight, cut loads of fatty foods out, stopped eating take aways ect...
martinlufc5637 Why is the weight not coming off? Are you exercising as well? If you stick to a healthy diet and exercise i would assume the weight would come off. I do have some medical issue which don’t help but I’m going to try my best to lose some weight.
martinlufc5637 try taking a walk every day. Put a walking app on your phone for encouragement. I put one on my phone which gives £10 vouchers when you collect 21,000 coins from walking. Also swap unhealthy snacks for a piece of fruit or carrot sticks etc. Swap full fat for low fat. Try not to buy food with red labels on them which means they are high in fat, sugar or salt. Don't give up! Good luck
AmandaChoo I have four walking apps and they do motivate you to hit the target. If I haven’t done enough steps in the day, you’ll find me walking my road at night in my pjs!
AmandaChoo I have post thrombotic syndrome from having blood clots in my leg, walking is a major issue, it causes my leg to swell like a balloon and is really painful , there is no cure, I just have to live with it
martinlufc5637 I am sorry to hear about that. Maybe try some sitting on a chair excercise or swimming? Try looking on youtube
martinlufc5637 It's good that you have cut down on fatty foods, but when it comes to dieting calories are your main enemy, and calories are calories whatever the food. So you need to cut down on the calories in order to lose weight.
Good luck! And I am sorry to hear about your medical condition.
I lasted 2 years on mine. I still eat healthy and exercise but will allow myself to have the occasional treat. It wasn't so much of a diet as a lifestyle change which I still stick to. Lost 3 stone and maintained it.
MrsCraig I am also on a healthy eating diet. I don't like to say diet but more healthy eating and definitely a life changing one at that.
MrsCraig Well done for lasting so long and I know it is changing the way you eat and getting into a better routine which becomes your normal lifestyle.
I have been on a diet for 9 months now and I have lost just over 2 stone. It isn't easy because excercise is limited due to medical problems but I keep on plodding on. I am dreading Christmas coming with all of the delicious food and drinks but if I am sensible then hopefully I will not gain too much weight
Like a few weeks the chocolates are too tempting and carbs oml they're so cheap instantly fill a basket up with them
Diet...what kind of word is that...life is to short..just enjoy your self..obviously within moderation
