Woman Jailed for Killing and Eating Pet Hamster

In the News

What is wrong with people, I read this story, expecting it to be some deranged teenager, which says a lot about my unconscious bias, only to find she was 39.

Words can't say, what I think about this.

Why oh why do people film these dreadful acts and post them online? Those that view these videos are just as sick.

The police are rightly very concerned about individuals who mutilate animals. Many serial killers start out in the same way!

Should be banned from keeping pets for the rest of her life.

BonzoBanana Can you imagine, it was obviously a family pet, so you would assume she had some feelings of affection towards it. It such a dreadful thing to do, if she did it because she was desperate for drugs hopefully this is a wake up call.

39? She looks way older than that.

Not to disregard this, but there are far more serious crimes that the police doesn't want to go near.

PhilipMarc I agree, especially when you think of the cost of keeping her incarcerated at the tax payers expense. It was horrific, but as you say there are harden criminals out there that seem to get away with worst crimes.

People are horrible. I'm not shocked. When working with people you see it all.

Elsewhere on chat Telmel has told us about a squirrel being eaten live on air. The chef didn't get sent to prison. Why is eating a guinea pig any different to eating any other animal, I am sure it would be considered a delicacy in some other parts of the world.

Don't get me wrong, I think the woman is a sicko but jailed for eating meat? Animals are killed daily to be eaten and the only difference I can see is her mindset rather than her actions.

EDIT: Maybe her sentence should have been a few sessions with a psychiatrist.

Lynibis She didn't kill the poor hamster to eat it for any reason though, other than for entertainment. She tortured it through inflicting lots of pain and suffering before it died, then ate it whilst having it filmed.

Guinea pigs can be eaten it is called 'cuy' and popular in Peru, so can rabbits and lots of other animals, often specifically bred for that reason, not your usual domesticated breeds. They are usually killed in a certain way, which is much quicker than what this person done to the poor hamster.

I don't like the thought of it anyway but know you can buy frozen hamsters to feed to your snakes in rare cases, but the is to feed and help another species survive, but again they are killed and frozen, we don't allow live feeding in the UK.

I kind of wish I hadn't read the article, but needed to know, I'm sure as a small animal lover, someone would have told me (because some people can't help themselves!) so I wanted to facts, but it made me feel very ill. She should certainly be banned from keeping animals for life though or be reviewed after her ban and be offered some form of therapy. I can't see just anyone doing that as entertainment. 😔 🤢

Lynibis "about a squirrel being eaten live on air" you might have misinterpreted that ambiguity - it was not eaten "while alive", it was eaten after its death (probably not from natural causes) on a "LIVE" television broadcast.

I believe this case revolved around the inhumane way the hamster was killed.

DeBunny I must admit I didn't read the article as these sort of things make me feel sick. And she certainly is one sick lady.

It would be helpful if the public stopped watching these vile videos, then surely the idiots posting them would find better things to do with their life. She definitely looks deranged. What is wrong with people!

Midnightflower At least YouTube will not tolerate any video that shows any form of cruelty to any animal. It's a pity more sites don't do likewise.

Remember Freddie Starr? At least the story was made up by a publicist. This woman was not faking it. Probation for 5 years would have been more appropriate.
