Xl Bully Dogs

In the News

The government is looking into banning the American breed of dogs bully dogs. There was an attack in Birmingham over the weekend where a few where injured including an 11 year old. Some of this is apparently because of people getting dogs during covid and them not being trained properly and this is the fall out

I saw this video online and how awful it was. Not saying Rottweilers are vicious dogs but someone I know has just purchased one and he has no control over it. It is generally the owner then the dog with the problem.

It's all wrong it's not the dogs it's the owners not training them I think most get them as a show pet but can't be bothered to actually doing what needs to be done

You get some real scum who buy aggressive dogs and of course are too stupid to train them. As I said in past posts there should be a dog license but it should be for owners. If they have a criminal record or just too stupid to care for an animal and train it then they shouldn't get a license. Some dog breeds which are very aggressive animals should of course be banned as pretty much no one can train them. Some people buy aggressive dogs to protect their home and then if they kill someone the dog gets destroyed and very little happens to the owner.

BonzoBanana that's not true nearly every dog can be trained if it's done right , I believe that any dog no matter what breed is it can turn for no reason

Leannexxx Some dog breeds are definitely much more aggressive and they may have been breed that way i.e. dogs for dog fighting which still goes on in many parts of the world and happens here illegally. Yes any dog can get aggressive for multiple reasons but its all about probabilities. One dog may have a 1 in 3 chance of becoming aggressive and another 1 in 10000. My brother had a flat coated retriever and she was so soft and loving I can't really imagine her ever attacking anything unless in self-defence as a last resort.

It’s never the dogs fault, always the owners. The problem is some of the people who own these dogs have them to intimidate others.

OmG I'm from Birmingham and I haven't heard about it until now.. I thought this breed was already banned.

We have these dogs by our workplace and they bark as soon as someone walks past .. it's very scary and intimidating.. but they are being protective of their owners.

I haven't seen the video it's the breaders that make these dogs vicious a lot of people in my area have them Iam terrified of them they look so aggressive but I don't trust any dog I have 2 miniature dachshunds and still wouldn't trust I always hold there heads away when someone wants to touch them they aren't vicious but you never know the minute with dogs

People keep saying that it's the owner and not the dog who is at fault. Funny how it's never a labrador or a poodle isn't it?

Has anyone ever seen dogs like this maul someone to death? No, because the dogs that do are naturally aggressive, it is bred into their genes. Bad owners just exacerbate the problem. So, if you don't want them banned it is tantamount to being ok with them mauling children because you cannot legislate against bad owners but you can ban bad dogs. Why does anyone want to own a dog when there is even the slightest chance that it could hurt or kill someone. I rest my case.

Lynibis Although the dogs you've posted are almost certainly no threat to humans, it is always the small ones that come flying at my two 60kg Dogue De Bordeaux to try and start a fight.

Luckily mine are well trained, plus we hold them/put them on the lead where there are other people animals around.

So yes, I do believe it's down to the owners, I've come across some real yappy, snappy little sh!ts. indeed, the only time I've ever been bitten by a dog it was a Yorkshire terrier.

blacklabrador one good kick and they are down though. My son's little Maltese was grabbed by a large dog in the park. The woman (with 2 young girls) said it was a rescue dog and she didn't even have a lead. Poor little Barney was a quivering wreck with it's belly trapped in the dog's jaws, it was only my son's quick thinking who bent down and shouted as loud as he could and punched it that made him let go. I am a quivering wreck every time I see a large dog running free. A Rottweiler came at me and my small grandson so I shoved kid behind me and just quietly stood my ground as it snarled at me. The owner strolled over, took the dog, didn't say a word and strolled off.

OMG Dogs are all the scary, especially the ones that fit those two men and one 11-year-old girl, but most of the time it’s the owners who can’t be bothered to train them or want the dog food for fighting that results in this happening

I think imposing long prison sentences on owners could be the answer. If nearly all dogs can be trained then surely the owners are responsible. Start giving people 10 years for an attack and 25years for death and I bet people would think more carefully about dog ownership.

Midnightflower I think they will occasionally go loco no matter what the owners are like. Sometimes the owners aren't bad, just don't have a clue. I don't have a dog but I watch Dogs Behaving Badly and it's a real eye opener.

janphoenix51 I am not the type to own a pet but I have often felt strong affection for the pets of other people. I will be upset when my sons dogs leave us. Others pets seem to like me though and my sister's cat would lay across my neck on back of sofa purring softly. I think sis was well jell lol.

Lynibis but surely its still the owners responsibility. They've chosen to have a dog and therefore are responsible for its training and wellbeing. If the dog is displaying behaviour they can't deal with then they should seek professional help immediately. If that doesn't work then the dog should not be allowed near the public.

Midnightflower I long ago gave up on the human race. There are good people and scumbags and it is the latter who mainly own these dogs. The gangster types who own them for their own protection and to intimidate. They are never going to seek help with their dogs, they WANT them to be aggressive. Yes they are responsible but they are the same people who commit crime, litter the streets, abuse their kids and partners, shoplift, knife each other, burgle......I could go on. If human beings act like animals how can we expect them to raise well trained dogs? The ONLY answer is to ban them from keeping them because no one knows if a buyer will be a good owner and if that's the case the only other option is to ban the dogs. Would we keep any other animal that is capable of showing aggressive traits? I wouldn't want one living next door to me.

Lynibis, I live on a small side road,no houses at one side, there is an XL Bully dog & a smaller dog moved in a few doors from me 2 year ago, also when I was talking our new neighbour a few doors up she was telling me that she has the sister of the dog, also there are 2 of the litter on the roads surrounding our's!

The lady keeps her's in the kitchen, separated by a gate, she told me that she muzzles her XL Bully dog when she takes it for a walk, she told me how gentle it is BUT also told me she's taking NO chances with it..

I have NEVER seen the dog, didn't even know the family owned a dog & she told me they had four dogs of different breeds but gave 2 away, yet I haven't seen any, just the lady, her partner & their 12 year old daughter & 2 year old son..

janphoenix51 I know that very many people do not agree with me (I am not a dog owner, but I do like dogs) but I just can't get my head around why anyone would choose this breed to have as a family pet, especially with a 2 year old around. If you acknowledge you would take no chances, muzzle it and keep in kitchen where is the joy and love of dog ownership? Just don't understand.

Every time Iv ever known a bad dog be it big or small it's been down to bad training / abusive owner.

Dogs are like people, Give them an inch & they'll take a mile without boundaries/rules/routine. One simply way to reduce attacks would be to make it a law that ALL dogs be kept on a lead outside unless on private land.

Lynibis No one should be walking a dog that is too strong for them, regardless of breed. I remember in the 90s a certain calibre of people owned pitbull/ staffy types, now its XL bully's. In a few years time we'll be discussing another breed the backyard breeders have utilised. It's time to get tougher on the breeders & bring in harsher punishments on owners of out of control dogs

That story is very very bad and when the dog is biting the two men and children, the owner didn’t even do anything. He just stood there watching the dog. What sort of owner is that when someone is getting bitten by a dog and you just stand there, not even try and get the dog off the victim

The owner should get a prison sentence for that, and the dog should be put down as soon as possible and that breed of dog should be banned from the UK and every country. It is very very sad that the only just stood there watching

ruby786786 I agree. People keep saying it is the owners faults, which might be occasionally true, but even most untrained 'naughty' dogs would not go on a biting/killing rampage. It is in the genes of these dogs who do. Some folk don't realise that it takes patience and understanding of a dog to train it well. If I was stupid enough to buy a dog I wouldn't know where to start and would be upset first time it piddled on my carpet!!

What don't they want to ban or limit people to? 😑

If you're rich, there's an area in Switzerland (called Moritz or something) where the rich, millionaire, and so on get together and enjoy themselves while the rest of us are told we're killing the planet and we shouldn't eat meat, shouldn't drive, shouldn't go on vacations, etc.

And in 2030 they're trying to make us own nothing and somehow be happy about it.

Taking the argument in a different direction - If we hear of a person convicted of stabbing another person, we don't automatically write off the whole human race.

We hopefully just realise they are one bad person in a world where people are predominantly good.

blacklabrador yes and we deal with that person, not the good ones. Your argument is not a logical one and I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree. Most people have children somewhere in the family, why on earth choose an aggressive muscle bound dog rather than an affectionate dog who loves humans?

I haven't been to my best friends house for about 8 years as she had two shar-pei dogs which I was terrified of. There have been 3 bite incidents despite her being rather good at dog psychology, I stopped going the first time the male dog growled at me. They are both dead now and she has bought a French pug thing which is another breed I don't agree with, for the dog's sake though and their life of suffering.
