BURGER FLOP? Co-Op Cuts Burgers to Pennies Because of Rain
- Co-op's latest deal for barbecue burgers fails to sell because of rain
- Emma Clark shows freezer full of reduced-to-clear penny burgers
- Original deal was four burgers and four Stella's for £3.50
- Expert deal hunter says it's great opportunity for savvy shoppers to get a bargain
Emma Clark showed her chest freezer stuffed with reduced-to-clear burgers from Co-op.
The burgers all had yellow, reduced-to-clear labels making them just 99p each. It comes after Co-op launched a new deal for Summer barbecues, selling four burgers and a pack of four Stella beers for £3.50. However it seems the rain put a dampener on sales and the burgers have had to be sold for pennies.
Emma Clark, 40, from Suffolk, told LatestDeals.co.uk she found the bargain for her family of six in her local Co-op.
It comes after Co-op launched its new Super Saver deal where, until 27th August, you can get four burgers and four Stellas for just £3.50 - and if you’re vegetarian or would rather have a fizzy drink, there are options for you too. She posted a picture of her full freezer on the Facebook Group of LatestDeals.co.uk writing: “Due to Co-op's latest deal on cola/Stella and burgers at 3.50 they are now knocking out excessive burgers at 99p instead of £2.50... jigsaw puzzle the freezer moment.” Her post soon went viral with over 200 likes and 60 comments.
"My brother decided a BBQ was in order", which was probably what the original deal was intended for anyway.
Fellow barbecue fans commented: “Absolutely brilliant. Have a nice bbq” and “Them burgers are so nice as well we got them on Sunday and a couple of packs of cheeky Stella”. Other members of the money-saving community joked: “none in stock u had the country's worth” and “What time and where? I’ll bring a bottle x”.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk commented, "From what I can see Emma got 48 burgers for £11.88. Normally they're £2.50 each, or £30 in total. That's great yellow label shopping! I think the burgers may have been reduced-to-clear following the new promotion failing to sell because of the bad weather. No one's having a barbecue in the rain. But it's great Co-op doesn't just throw them away and reduces food waste by selling them at a discount. Nevertheless, Emma's brother is up for a barbecue rain or shine!"
"The original offer - four burgers and four Stella Artois at only £3.50 is actually an incredible deal. I saw it is available at Costcutter's too, and like Emma has done you can just put it in the freezer and wait for a sunny day. It's a great opportunity for savvy shoppers to save." "An extra tip to save at Co-op is to get a membership card. It costs £1 but you get 5% cashback on everything you buy, plus a charitable donation. If you're a student you can get a further 10% discount with a valid student card."
